Pro & Anti LTN Campaigners Unite to Tackle Air Pollution

Arguments in favour of the low traffic neighbourhoods (LTNs) introduced in parts of Acton include a reduction in air pollution resulting from less car use. Campaigners opposed to the LTNs counter that longer journeys caused by LTNs will result in increased air pollution. So, in fact, both sides at least AGREE that air pollution is bad and that we should minimise it. And that’s scarcely surprising when we know that in London, air pollution contributes to in excess of 9,400 premature deaths every year, and costs the health system annually between £1.4 billion and £3.7 billion. The main source of this pollution is road vehicles – but it’s not just their exhaust gases. The latest research carried out for the government indicates that dust from brake wear, tyre wear and road surface wear currently constitute over 60% (by mass) of particulate emissions (PM2.5 and PM10) from road transport. These fragments pollute the air and will eventually be washed into rivers and the sea. Electric vehicles do not solve this dust problem and can even make it worse, as they tend to be heavier due to their batteries. Currently no legislation is in place to limit or reduce these particles. So what can be done? Well, apart from walking or cycling instead of driving whenever you can, there’s one very simple thing you can do: Buy the LIGHTEST, smallest car that is sufficient for you. Doing so reduces every type of emission. By contrast, an SUV weighs on average 40% more than a normal car, due to its size and 4-wheel transmission. But there’s worse! Apart from the increased dust due to the extra weight, the International Energy Agency has found that SUVs are the SECOND LARGEST CAUSE of the global rise in carbon dioxide emissions over the past decade, eclipsing all shipping, aviation, heavy industry and even trucks. Each year, SUVs emit 700 mega-tonnes of CO2, about the entire output of the UK and Netherlands combined. On top of all this, studies of accident statistics in the USA found that a far higher percentage of pedestrians hit by SUVs died compared with those hit by a normal car. Having to share the road with 2-ton monsters puts people off buying a small car or cycling – the very things we need to encourage to tackle both air pollution and climate change.Already the European Transport Safety Council and the UK Citizens’ Assembly on Climate Change (set up by the House of Commons) have discussed a ban on SUVs in cities. Sooner or later governments will have to legislate, but meanwhile we in Acton can do our bit. If you have an over-sized vehicle, simply commit to never buying another, and tell your friends why. And if you don’t have one, then keep it that way.The UK will host the UN Climate Summit COP26 in Glasgow this November; it will be the largest summit the UK has ever hosted, bringing together representatives from nearly 200 countries to discuss how to avoid catastrophic climate change. So, whatever we think of LTNs and whatever car we currently own, there is no better time for us to unite in a commitment to the planet for the sake of our children.SEE:====1) “How to Save Our Planet”, WWF International [8:27]. Where is Richmondshire?

In the opening salvo for 6th May, Labour Council leader Julian Bell is quoted as comparing Ealing to Richmondshire when claiming the Borough is deprived of cash by 'Tory cronyism', the mantra of Mayor Sadiq Khan for the last 6 years. “Two homes” is one of 11 London boroughs Labour leaders demanding the Chancellor Rishi Sunak give them more taxpayers money from the £4.8 billion Levelling Up Funding allocated according to the Index of Multiple Deprivation, the Government measure of poverty.Khan and his cronies are claiming just 3 London boroughs got the highest ranking to receive government cash along with Mr Sunak’s own constituency of Richmond in Yorkshire, taking a perverse pride in the social deprivation. “Two Homes” is quoted as saying that after a decade of Tory inflicted austerity the government is refusing refund councils the huge costs of responding to Covid-19 both demonstrably false statements.  He also lied about the Chancellor throwing money at better off Tory constituencies and downgrading the help for the most deprived areas in the country.Khan’s bid to stay in office is based on lies about what he calls the “blatant unfairness” of those responsible for the failures in London not being rewarded for failure. For 5 years too many Londoners have lived in the most deprived communities in the country, with stark inequalities in health and life expectancy which Covid 19 has served to exasperate yet Khan and Bell refuse to accept their part in this to falsely claim London has been ignored from Government funding dedicated to tackling inequality. Khan insists it is all Rishi Sunak’s fault. Mayor Sadiq Khan is running a smear campaign, claiming Government Ministers have committed fraud in the distribution of funds to their own constituencies and making his trade mark Critical Race remarks about “pork barrel politics” to attack the Government’s Levelling Up Prospectus which decides a constituency’s priority on “its need for economic recovery, regeneration and improved connectivity”. Khan and the 11 other Labour run London boroughs seem proud to have become poorer and wants those responsible to get more money. The Mayor of London accuses the Government of displaying “constant anti-London rhetoric” and has said that “levelling down London will only make us all poorer”. The Mayor is funded by direct government grant and, as a precepting authority, collects money from business rates and local Council Tax. The GLA is unique with its presidential government system that gave Sadiq Khan immense powers he has used very badly. As Mayor of London for increasing the spending on City Hall Staff by 82%. Staff costs in Boris Johnson's final budget for 2016-17 were £36m, while the 2020-21 budget under Mr Khan show them to be at £65.5m. It is clear that while thousands of Londoners have lost jobs, local authority bureaucrats are prospering. False flags about Tory corruption will not stop Londoners worrying about how dangerous the city has become with rising crime and increasing violent deaths Sadiq Khan has proven himself incapable of stopping. Each breath Londoners take prove Khan’s environmental failures but it his failure to build much needed homes while giving Labour Party members and donners millions for their advice and websites now all promoting the Marxist BLM that has been Sadiq Khan’s legacy. The Government provided £4.82 billion grant for the provision of more affordable housing in London. Mayor Khan selected Catalyst Housing Group as his development partner for the redevelopment of the St Ann’s Hospital site in Tottenham despite their numerous Planning Contraventions Notices and Judgements by the Homes and Communities Agency. The Mayor of London has designated 50 of 934 small flats “affordable” and claims this will enable local people to own homes so St Ann’s qualifies for Central Government funding as one of the largest community-led housing schemes in London. Ealing based Catalyst rapacious business practice looks set to increase homeless throughout London. Catalyst Shared Ownership Equity Loans retain 75% of the property while charging £345 per week for loan repayments with each household having to paid additional thousands on maintenance fees each year. Of the 132 South Acton flats purchased through a £70 million Loan arranged by Ealing Labour Councillors including Yvonne Johnston in 2011, over 80% of the original 132 buyers have left by March 2020 with Brentford County Court recording 347 Possession Cases brought by Catalyst over Equity Loan defaults between 2012 and 2020, some flats being sold 3 or 4 times over. Catalyst tells purchasers they will get Housing Benefit to cover loans repayments and when the money they do get falls short Ealing Council moves the evicted families into containers. And blame the Tories.Catalyst Housing Group is building another 900+ flats for shared ownership near the unfinished Acton Mainline train station, another victim of Khan’s disastrous management of Transport for London. This hugely profitable development is the result of 2016 Cannes meetings and payments from Tom Titherington, Catalyst Housing Group’s Executive Director of Property and Growth to Julian Bell and Lucy Taylor, Ealing’s Director of Regeneration. “Two Homes” actually expects people to believe he and his staff, whose salaries have increased in line with those at City Hall, cycled all the way from Ealing to the South of France for charity.

DISHONEST TRADING.

Misleading information provided by energy switching company Look After My Bills to the public has been addressed by the Advertising Standards Authority. Below is a post shared by Nick Blagg, a member of:                                                                                                                                                                        "Look After My Bills Problem Reporting Page."                                                                                                                                                     Nick Blagg shared a link. The complaint made to the advertising standards agency against LAMB has been upheld !! It feels like a partial victory to me based on what the ruling is (see below) but it’s still a win and the more of us that continue to complain the more pressure is applied.  Keep it up guys. 👍🏻Dear Mr Blagg,Thank you for your continued patience.  Further to the below, we received another complaint which raised issues similar to those highlighted in your complaint.  Based on the information you and the other complainant provided, we considered that advertising content from Look After My Bills was likely to break the advertising rules we apply.  Therefore, we contacted the advertiser to ask for their assurance that future ads do not misleadingly imply that users of the service will have access to every single energy company and every single energy deal on the market.  They have provided this assurance. This now resolves your complaint, and the case will be closed.  Basic information including the advertiser’s name and where the ad appeared will be published on www.asa.org.ukThank you for bringing this matter to our attention.Kind regards,JamesJames JonesComplaints ExecutiveDirect Line 020 7492 2214Please note, I do not work on FridaysAdvertising Standards AuthorityCastle House, 37-45 Paul StreetLondon EC2A 4LSTelephone 020 7492 2222

Gas and electric suppliers.

ENERGY SUPPLIERS.Because I haven't got a head for figures I have stuck with SSE Swalek for 47 years. But owing to Look After My Bills without my permission signing me up to Utility Point in October 2021, I have had the opportunity to try and figure out which energy provider gives the best deal. I have learned that using switching companies provides the worst deals and leave behind a trail of stress. For instance Look  After My Bills and Utility Point for 4 months have both blamed each other and both have launched an investigation into the mess they have dropped me in. And the situation has not been resolved with 2 BBC consumer programmes investigating hundreds if not thousands of complaints against these 2 companies. My energy provider for 47 years, SSE had suggested that I start off with them as a new customer and on 12-1-21 a contract was agreed with a customer service agent emailing me the following details."Good day Mr Milkins,This is to confirm the effective start date with Swalec-SSE is the 29 January 2021 to take over the gas and electricity supply. This means that you will only be charged from the date mentioned above going forward. All other charges will be applied by your current supplier until the date your supply starts with Swalec-SSE.Thank you.Regards,Yolanda."Hooray. Then I get the following  email from Jolene from SSE on 20-1-20."I understand that you have been sent an email regarding the dates the supply has come back to us and you were advised that you would not have a bill until SSE started [29-1-21], feedback is being provided to that adviser so this incorrect information is not given in the future, for this I can offer a goodwill payment of £30.00 for incorrect information given. SSE can keep their £30 !!!!!!!!!!I have now learned how easy it is to find the cheapest deal for gas and electric. Find a company offering a 2 year fixed tariff which I have done. To date, the best deal offers a 2 year fixed tariff.                                 For gas, the daily standing charge is 27 pence per day. The charge for gas is 2.952 pence per kw hour. For electric, the standing charge is 24.02 pence per day. The charge for electric is 17.42 per kw hour. These prices are considerably cheaper than my former supplier. If anyone can direct me to a better deal, please let me know as haven't signed up to EDF yet.

Look After My Bills Nightmare.

This is a post from today (Monday 8 February) put on the Facebook page, Look After My Bills Problem Reporting Page by B**** Orm***"After initially being attracted by the promise of finding consumers the best market deal and starting the registration process, I read some worrying reviews and immediately cancelled - told LAMB that I had changed my mind and did not want them to look after my bills. Subsequently I continued to receive emails saying I had been transferred, causing me grief and frustration. I again informed them that I did not want LAMB to look after my bills and also emailed my current supplier to tell them I did not want LAMB to transfer me and that I wished to remain with Coop Energy. LAMB continued to email me about my transfer. What a nightmare! Fortunately Coop Energy stepped in on my behalf. This was quite some time ago and I continued to receive email from them but I have blocked them. Neil I wish you luck. Once they get their claws in you they fill your life with worry and anxiety. Relentless!"                                                                                                                                                                     For some reason, Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis on Saturday 6 February urged energy users to use switching companies such as Look After My Bills to try to get cheaper energy.                               All I can say is, before you consider doing this look at the Facebook groups page Look after My Bills Problem Reporting Page and Trustpilot, Look After My Bills reviews before making a decision you may regret for months to come.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS.For some people it is not bearable to think about, or to plan for their own funeral or for that of their spouse. However in these uncertain times I believe it is a responsible thing to do to take some of the pressure and grief off family members by not leaving things to late. Myself and my wife have taken steps to leave very little for our family members to worry about regarding these arrangementsWe have taken steps to arrange Pure Cremation funerals which was catapulted into the news a few years ago by singer David Bowie. For instance, if I die first, my wife will contact a funeral director in Hampshire. They will take care of all the arrangements needed. I would be collected from my home or from anywhere else and taken to Hampshire to to the funeral director's own private crematorium for disposal. No flowers, no family present and no funeral service. Arrangements have already been made for a memorial service shortly after my death. The benefits of doing things this way is that the cost to my wife and family is minimal. If I die at home the cost of the complete funeral arrangement is £1195.00 or £1.445 if I die in hospital or nursing home. The average cost of a cremation funeral in the UK is £3,986, sometimes thousands more.Being a very competitive business I am sure that some funeral directors would charge less than £1195.00.Nobody wants to die, but time and unforeseen events befall us all. In the mean time wash your hands and socially distance.

Government says public should have right to ask councils to release land for redevelopment

The government has published for consultation proposals that would enable the public to challenge councils and other public bodies to release underused land for redevelopment. The ‘right to regenerate’ proposals mean that underused public land could be sold to individuals or communities by default – unless there is a “compelling reason” for the owner to keep itPublic bodies would need to demonstrate clear plans for the land in the near future – even if it is a temporary use before later development. If it were kept for long without being used, it would have to be sold. The rights would also apply to unused publicly owned social housing and garages. The government notes that the latest figures show there were more than 25,000 vacant council-owned homes and recent Freedom of Information data shows there were more 100,000 empty council-owned garages last year. The government says it wishes to provide local communities with an opportunity to “transform eyesores” into something they want in their area. It builds on government work to encourage development on brownfield land.Jenrick said: “Right to regenerate is the simple way to turn public land into public good, with land sold by default unless there is a very compelling reason not to do so.“We are cutting through red tape so that communities can make better use of available land and derelict buildings, which means more new homes, businesses and community assets.“Millions of people will now be able to buy that empty property, unused garage or parcel of land and turn it into something good for them and their community.”Tom Chance, chief executive of the National Community Land Trust Network, welcomed the idea.“There are hundreds of community land trusts across the country wanting to build much-needed affordable housing, but getting hold of land at an affordable price is a huge barrier.“The potential for communities to be given first right of refusal could be a game changer. We encourage everyone to read through the proposals and respond to the consultation.”Ian Harvey, executive director of Civic Voice, added: “Across the country, communities see land that remains empty and wonder why. They imagine how it could be used for communities – from green space, to housing – but when they enquire about enhancing the space it’s never clear who owns it.“If a community has a viable use for this land, they must be given the opportunity to take these ideas forward.“The ‘right to regenerate’ is a great step forward to build on previous attempts at doing this and we believe it will increase the chance for communities to come together to bring vacant land into the heart of the community. We look forward to working with communities on this latest community right.”The consultation, which closes on 13 March, can be found here on the UK Government website.18 January 2021Laura Edgar, The Plannerhttps://www.planningportal.co.uk/news/article/750/planning_news_-_21_january_2021?utm_source=PPQ+Newsletter&utm_campaign=efc81fca0a-Newsletter_11072019_HTML_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_734e0b63a9-efc81fca0a-7282665#two

OFGEM Investigation Into Utility Point.

IMPORTANT UPDATE. UTILITY POINT HAVE HAD THEIR SUPPLY LICENCES REVOKED BY OFGEM?                                                                                                                                                                                          After spending nearly 4 months trying to get to the bottom  of how Look After My Bills illegally changed my energy supplier from SSE to Utility Point, today has come a breakthrough. I had to deal with the matter myself after Look After My Bills who claimed to have started an investigation into the matter 65 days ago refused to respond to my last dozen or so phone calls or my last 8 emails. Today someone posted the following on trusted website Trustpilot regarding Utility Point and Look After My Bills.                                                                                                                                   "I just got a quote from LAMB and it suggested I change to a company called Utility Point.According to Trustpilot, this company are under investigation regarding giving customers incentives for positive reviews. The OFGEM website says they have revoked their supply licences with effect from 4 January 2021.LAMB...you say you work with suppliers who value their customers and are committed to improving their customer service.“Don’t worry, if a supplier has terrible customer service we won’t switch you to them even if they want to pay us!”I think you need to have an urgent review of some of the companies you are recommending.I won’t be using LAMB."

Look After My Bills Nightmare.

Sorry to get on peoples' nerves but my warning to people about the possibility of the collapse of energy company Utility Point has shaken Look After My Bills into issuing the following statement to a disgruntled Trustpilot reviewer.                                                                                                                                                 Hi Jenny,I understand that there has been a lot of concerns around receiving your refund from Utility Point. At this point in time last year, we switched a lot of customers to Utility Point, we are now switching these customers away from Utility Point. This means that Utility Point have to process refunds for 1000's of customers, so please bear with them as this can take some time. They have doubled their resources to help deal with this backlog and have informed us that the majority of these refunds will be processed in the next 10 days.We review the suppliers we work with regularly based on a number of factors including customers' feedback, Trustpilot reviews, Citizens Advice Bureau and financial stability. If we have several customers expressing dissatisfaction with a particular supplier, we raise an investigation to decide whether we want to continue working with them.If you can kindly respond to my private request for more information then I can look to go through your account with us in greater detail and let you know how best to proceed.I look forward to hearing from you.Thomas - Senior Energy AdviserLook After My Bills

Look After My Bills Nightmare.

To save people the agony of having to deal with a future nightmare  with Look After My Bills and Utility Point please read their horrendous reviews on Trustpilot.                                  This is an email I received from Trustpilot this week.                                                People are reading your review!Hi Neil Milkins,You recently wrote a review on Trustpilot and it looks like people find it helpful.117 people have already read your review.                                                                                                       LOOK AFTER MY BILLS SHAMBLES.It is now 12 weeks since Look After My Bills without my knowledge or permission changed my energy provider from S.S.E. to Utility Point. Jacqueline Loughman promised me 9 weeks ago that they would resolve the matter within 14 days. A week ago their senior complaints manager Daniel promised me he would phone me on (29-12-20) and have the matter resolved. No phone call and no answer to my emails to him. In the meantime I am going to have a sky high electric and gas bill when this matter is resolved. It is near impossible to get a reply from them once you have emailed and phoned them and it is totally impossible to phone Utility Point as ALL their phone lines have been cut off. I have been on the phone and emailing 19 hours in total trying to sort this mess out. Anyone thinking of going with Look After My Bills or Utility Point please check their horrendous reviews on Trustpilot.

A moste interestinge article with which I (of course!) heartily agree:-

However, we do live, currently, and despite the concerted efforts of many, in a free speaking society, and this is a Forum, so all opinions and comments are welcome to debate!https://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-9057393/CALVIN-ROBINSON-Good-riddance-bunkum-unconscious-race-bias-classes.htmlDaily Mail / Calvin RobinsonPUBLISHED: 23:19, 15 December 2020 | UPDATED: 23:21, 15 December 2020As diversity lessons for the civil service are scrapped, it's good riddance to the bunkum of 'unconscious race-bias' classes.Despite huge demographic changes in recent decades, our political system has not been scarred by extremism, nor has our society been gripped by racial discord.Britain is a remarkably tolerant country with an impressive record on integration.Despite huge demographic changes in recent decades, our political system has not been scarred by extremism, nor has our society been gripped by racial discord. Our national spirit of openness is precisely why so many migrants wish to settle here.It is therefore a bitter paradox that this success story is being undermined by a small minority who pose as the champions of anti-racism but who only promote friction as they seek to paint Britain as a land wracked by bigotry. The great American civil rights leader Dr Martin Luther King urged that, in the fight for equality, people should ‘not be judged by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character’.TwistedBut today’s self-styled ‘anti-racists’ have turned that ideal on its head, holding that we should all be defined by our ethnicity. In their twisted narrative, colour blindness is not a virtue but a vice. This divisive outlook is reflected in the fashion for ‘unconscious bias training’, now common in British workplaces, especially in the public sector.Such training — which can range from lectures to online tests — aims to root out any hidden prejudices that may inadvertently influence staff behaviour or decisions. That may sound like politically correct nonsense. But, in recent years, even our political class has succumbed to it.Since 2014, when completing four ‘modules’ in diversity and inclusion training became a requirement for all Whitehall staff, 170,000 civil servants have undergone it.And in the summer, at the height of the Black Lives Matter protests, Sir Keir Starmer decided all Labour Party employees should undergo such instruction. But now a welcome stand has been made by the Government against this fad.Yesterday, the Cabinet Office announced that ‘unconscious- bias training’ will be scrapped for the civil service, after an internal review found the courses did nothing for equality and, in some cases, were even counter-productive as they fuelled resentment. In the present institutionalised fervour about race, the decision is a bold one.But it is absolutely correct. For the review is only the latest in a string of reports that confirm that bias training is, put simply, a load of bunkum. In 2018, the Equality and Human Rights Commission found the evidence for the ‘ability [of unconscious bias training] to change behaviour is limited’.A year later, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development declared that the courses in bias ‘had no sustained impact on behaviour’.This is hardly surprising given that the whole method is profoundly flawed and riddled with contradictions. It supposedly celebrates diversity, but demands rigid conformity with its dogma. Its ostensible purpose is to build harmony, but its bullying, hectoring tone causes hostility and defensiveness.Stereotypes are denounced under the doctrine, yet sweeping generalisations are made about white people. It preaches responsibility for personal actions, yet infantilises and patronises users. This was highlighted by a recent such course in Parliament, where MPs were lectured by a diversity consultant using a glove puppet.More importantly, it has no intellectual basis of any substance.Calvin Robinson: The great American civil rights leader Dr Martin Luther King urged that, in the fight for equality, people should ‘not be judged by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character’ +3Calvin Robinson: The great American civil rights leader Dr Martin Luther King urged that, in the fight for equality, people should ‘not be judged by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character’First developed in the 1990s from the Implicit Association Test, a tool for ‘psychological diagnosis’ developed by American social psychologists, it is a hopelessly unreliable pseudo-science, like astrology or phrenology (the belief that character can be assessed from the shape of the head). That lack of credibility stems from the fact that its primary purpose is not scientific at all, but political: namely, to be used by cultural warriors to ensure that everyone conforms to their world view.Queen Elizabeth I famously declared that she had ‘no desire to make windows into men’s souls’. For her, as long as her subjects obeyed the law, she did not care what they thought privately. That has been the British tradition for centuries. But bias trainers have a very different approach.Like the Thought Police of George Orwell’s novel 1984, they want to control minds by delving into the unconscious, where they would like to eradicate unpalatable ideas and impose compliance. And as with any attempt to change people’s thinking, the premise behind unconscious-bias training only operates in one direction, where white people are the eternal oppressors and ethnic minorities the permanent victims. It is inconceivable that on any course a black or Asian client would be berated by a trainer for showing prejudice against a white colleague. This one-sided attitude also gives rise to the racially charged concept of ‘white privilege’, which is not only nasty but absurd.A white supermarket shelf stacker has far less wealth and power than a successful black barrister or an Asian medical consultant.GuiltBut the bias trainers set a trap for anyone who dares to challenge them. They refer to ‘white fragility’ to describe any negative reaction to any accusations of racial prejudice.Surprise, surprise — their white clients can never win.If they submit, they are admitting to their guilt as unconscious racists. If they refuse, they are attacked for being in denial, too ‘fragile’ to handle the truth.Either way, the bias trainers — who charge a minimum of £300-an-hour for the opportunity to hector their customers — end up laughing all the way to the bank. One consultancy I came across yesterday charges a £1,750 fee for a day’s course in ‘unconscious bias and cross-cultural training’. But this mix of indoctrination and cash-grabbing has to end.Pictured: Femi Otitoju with ‘UB’ puppet, that is said to be used in the 'unconscious bias' training given to MPs in a course designed by Challenge Consultancy +3Pictured: Femi Otitoju with ‘UB’ puppet, that is said to be used in the 'unconscious bias' training given to MPs in a course designed by Challenge ConsultancyThat is why the Government’s decision yesterday was so welcome and could mark a turning point in the fight back against the spread of the pernicious woke agenda. The Tories have been in power for ten successive years and, after the last election triumph, enjoy an 80-seat majority in the Commons.Yet they have been astonishingly timid about defending liberalism and British values against the race-obsessed minority who have held sway for far too long. While, of course, there remain inequalities that need addressing, this cause has come to predominate in civic life.Museums are browbeaten into removing statues, schools into ‘decolonising’ their lessons. The National Trust, which has entirely succumbed to the PC onslaught, recently drew up a list of shame, featuring historic properties that have links to British imperialism or the slave trade.LaughableSome of the grievances would be laughable were they not so offensive.Only last month, the late Poet Laureate Ted Hughes was denounced because one of his distant ancestors had a connection to slavery.Meanwhile, without any sense of irony at all, Prince Harry, a self-appointed high priest of the diversity cult, has the nerve to lecture us about white privilege.Even the much-cherished British pastime of horticulture is in the dock, with BBC Countryfile presenter James Wong declaring last week that ‘UK gardening culture has racism baked into its DNA’.Welcome to the mad world of contemporary ‘anti-racism’, where even pruning the roses may be a thought crime. The Government’s decision is a much-needed blow for sanity against such lunacy.Britain is a great country with so much that people of all races can celebrate. We cannot allow its appeal to be destroyed by fanatics bent on whipping up racial disunity for their own self-serving ends.Calvin Robinson is a former teacher and now governor at a London state school.

How other boroughs do it better

The Future of the Great British Town Hall – everywhere but Ealing “There is no alternative but to talk to the representatives of the community who are actively going to participate in this [civic building] long after we as architectural practitioners have moved on to other things. The term I use? ‘Ruthlessly inclusive’” – Ivan Harbour, Senior Partner, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners Town Halls are architectural icons from an era of optimism and utopia, which aimed to give power back to local communities. Whilst the buildings still carry those founding principles, there is a perception that they have lost their connection to the community and many have fallen into disrepair.Local Authorities, but not Ealing, are increasingly finding inventive ways to reverse this decline by re-imagining town halls, re-establishing them as public assets, and often successfully placing them at the centre of local regeneration and industrial growth strategies.Ealing council have closed the local town halls in the borough leaving only Ealing. Ealing borough residents were not consulted about the future of the old Town Tall and had only a brief chance to view some boards in the Broadway Centre, the done deal for Perceval House. Unlike the boroughs in this webinar our Illustrious Leader and his cabal of nodding donkeys have no vision.  Senior council officers share responsibility, they are employed to adviseThis webinar shows what can be done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdMYHiW-Ev4&feature=emb_logo

Owner Occupiers are the backbone and fabric of Acton/Ealing.

But we're under siege, and a dying breed:-Massive rise recorded in build-to-rent developmentsThe number of build-to-rent homes under construction or planned across the UK has jumped by 22 per cent against the same period last year, according to the British Property Federation (BPF).Research by Savills commissioned by the BPF reveals that between the second quarter of 2019 and the same period of 2020, the number of completed build-to-rent homes rose by 37 per cent. The number under construction fell by 5 per cent, but those in planning rose by 27 per cent.Although the sector continued to accelerate new housing supply outside of London, with a rise of 52 per cent in the number of homes in planning in the past 12 months across the regions, future growth in the capital remains more subdued. It has risen by 4 per cent since the end of 2019’s second quarter. While the sector is preparing for future growth, with a significant increase in the number of build-to-rent homes in planning compared with a year ago, starts and completions saw a steep decline from the first to second quarters of 2020. The BPF said this reflects the unique circumstances of the Covid-19 outbreak and was a break with a strong performance in 2019 and first quarter of 2020.In the first three months of 2020, the sector delivered 4,297 starts and 3,417 completions, but the second quarter has seen a sharp decline for both with only 1,827 starts and 1,640 completions.Local developers are responsible for building 28 per cent of the market, followed by UK housebuilders at 27 per cent, large UK developers at 17 per cent, contractors at 14 per cent, with registered providers at 9 per cent and big international developers at 3 per cent making up the rest.“Investor confidence in build-to-rent housing continues, with a greater commitment from the sector today to delivering new, high-quality rental homes across the UK compared to a year ago,” said BPF real estate policy director Ian Fletcher.“The sector will play a key role in supporting the government’s ambitious plans to ‘level up’ the country’s regions and in building a shared recovery where more people across the country, whether they choose or need to rent, will have more choice of rental properties available to them.“The build-to-rent sector’s growth will also aid the prime minister’s ambitions to ‘build, build, build’, with valuable construction jobs being created in all parts of the UK, but this requires momentum behind converting planning applications to construction starts.“These decisions, however, will be on a knife-edge for the next year, as risks rise and productivity remains low as a result of Covid-19, and so the government must ensure it does not take this much-needed new investment for granted, and both our planning and tax systems give confidence to investors to make decisions today for the long-term health of the UK housing market.”5 August 2020Huw Morris, The PlannerSOURCE: https://www.planningportal.co.uk/news/article/724/planning_news_-_13_august_2020?utm_source=PPQ+Newsletter&utm_campaign=f4b54d6349-Newsletter_11072019_HTML_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_734e0b63a9-f4b54d6349-7282665#two

TfL plan vast trackside scheme, up to a dozen high-rise blocks alongside Tube  train tracks in Acton

TfL plan for vast London trackside mixed-use schemeBy Aaron Morby   Transport for London has put developers on notice for an ambitious plan to build up to a dozen high-rise blocks alongside Tube train tracks in Acton, west London. The plan for a long ribbon site has been designed by architect HOK and will be brought forward in several phases to the south of Acton Town station.A second site will also be developed within a few hundred metres at Ealing Common train depot, and together both are planned to deliver more than 1,700 new homes, over 2,000 m2 of offices, retail and significant public realm improvements. The first scheme to be brought forward at Bollo Lane is a 2.8-hectare site located directly south of Acton Town London Underground Station.A hybrid planning application has recently been submitted to the London Borough of Ealing. This includes a full detailed application for a 195 home, 25 storey block at the western point of the site that includes commercial space and significant public realm improvements.Detailed high-rise flats plan submitted for plot 3aThe outline part of the planning application is for up to 900 new homes, extra commercial and shops spaceThe second less advanced element of the wider area plan is to develop land at Ealing Common Depot. This 2.6-hectare site is located to the north of Acton Town London Underground Station. It is currently occupied by various tenants and is home to London Transport Museum storage facility. Letter from Rupa Huq in support of Old Library planning application

Dear Wade,Re: Planning application 202045FUL - Former Acton Library, High Street, Acton, W3 6NAGood evening and I hope you’re well. I am writing to you from the Office of Rupa Huq, Member of Parliament for Ealing Central & Acton, with regards to the Change of Use application being considered by the Council with regards to former Acton Library by the Acton Arts Project. The application proposes a change of use to accommodate a Cinema and associated Arts/Culture functions, something which will be missing from much of the borough following the closure of Vue Cinema in Park Royal. We write to you in support of this application, which has been a work in progress for some time from the Acton Arts Project. The project will bring the disused, but much loved, old Library back into life and ensure it can be used for the community, by a community group made of us residents - all incredibly passionate about the future of Acton. It makes Acton a destination from the rest of the borough and will boost the local high street through associated use. The premises is an ideal location for accessibility by public transport, meaning that our residents can visit a cinema in a green/carbon friendly way, rather than having to travel outside of the borough. The site will also host a cafe/bar available to cinema users and the wider community, which provides another social space for residents. The application has not received a single objection which goes some way to show how welcome the proposals are, and it will certainly fill a gap in the Borough’s much needed amenities, with a community feel. The application put forward by Acton Arts projects carries a lot of merit and will help bring an exciting new venue to Acton High Street. It will breathe new life into the Old Library which closely reflects the social and cultural purpose the site was constructed for more than a century ago.We would therefore be incredibly grateful if you would be minded to approve this application. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. Yours sincerely,Milad Office of Dr Rupa HuqMember of Parliament for Ealing Central and ActonHouse of CommonsLondon

New regulations that will see buildings and land changing use without planning permission.

Planning News - 9 July 2020Published: Thursday, 9th July 2020Prime Minister Boris Johnson has set out new regulations that will see buildings and land changing use without planning permission, with a policy paper due in July outlining how ‘England’s seven-decade-old planning system will be reformed for modern society’.Under the new rules, existing commercial properties, such as newly vacant shops, would be “more easily” converted into housing. The measures are aimed at making it easier to create new homes and regenerate vacant buildings. These measures form part of his government’s plan to level up the country and help the UK recover from the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic – to “build back better, build back greener, build back faster”.The changes to the planning system are among a series of measures set out by Johnson in a speech today (30 June). The UK cannot “continue simply to be prisoners of this crisis”, he said.“I believe it is absolutely vital for us now to set out the way ahead so that everyone can think and plan for the future – short, medium and long term because if the Covid crisis has taught us one thing it is that this country needs to be ready for what may be coming and we need to be able to move with levels of energy and speed that we have not needed for generations.”Johnson attributed the reasons for why the country is “so slow at building homes” compared with Europe to “the newt-counting delays in our system [which] are a massive drag on the productivity and the prosperity of this country”.He said the government would invest in and accelerate infrastructure across the UK as well as promote a clean, green recovery and strengthen the union and local government.“All of these changes will make life better for the people of this great country and unleash Britain’s potential.”The prime minister said the measures sound like a New Deal because that is how it is meant to sound, because the times demand it. “It is time now not just for a New Deal, but a Fair Deal for the British people.”Chancellor Rishi Sunak is set to outline more of the recovery plan next week. In the forthcoming Spending Review and Autumn Budget, the government intends to set the direction for the rest of this Parliament.PlanningThe changes set out by the government would see more types of commercial premises having “total flexibility” to be repurposed by reforming the use classes order. Through permitted development rights, a building used for retail could be permanently used as a café or office without requiring planning permission. According to the government, pubs, libraries, village shops and other types of uses “essential to the lifeblood of communities” would not be covered by these flexibilities.Under the regulations, builders now won’t need to seek planning permission to demolish and rebuild vacant and redundant residential and commercial buildings if they are rebuilt as homes. Also, a wider range of commercial buildings would be allowed to become residential properties without the need for a planning application. If a property owner wants to build additional space above their properties, they would now be able to through a fast-track approval process – subject to neighbour consultation. The measures are due to come into effect by September. The government says these would “both support the high street revival by allowing empty commercial properties to be quickly repurposed and reduce the pressure to build on greenfield land by making brownfield development easier”.Johnson said work would start on investigating how government-owned land can be managed more effectively, while a new cross-government strategy would consider how public sector land can be managed and released for better use, such as for homes or improving the environment. In July, the government added, it would launch a policy paper setting out its plan for “comprehensive reform of England’s seven-decade-old planning system, to introduce a new approach that works better for our modern economy and society”.Alongside the planning reforms, the government set out how it would support housebuilding in England. The measures include:A £12 billion affordable homes programme that would support up to 180,000 new affordable homes for ownership and rent over the next eight years, announced in Budget 2020.As part of the affordable homes programme, there would be a 1,500 unit pilot of ‘First Homes – the houses would be sold to first-time buyers at a 30 per cent discount, which would remain in perpetuity.Funds from the £400 million Brownfield Land Fund have been allocated to the West Midlands, Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, Liverpool City Region, Sheffield City Region, North of Tyne and Tees Valley combined authorities to support about 24,000 homes. The Home Building Fund would be increased by £450 to help smaller developers access finance for new housing development. This is expected to support the delivery of 7,200 new homes.InfrastructureIn the 2020 Budget, Sunak announced that the second Road Investment Strategy (RIS2) would spend £27 billion between now and 2025 – and promised cash for mayoral combined authorities to invest in public transport.Today, the government explains that it is “redoubling” its efforts to get on with this now by bringing forward £5 billion of capital investment projects to support jobs and the economic recovery. This includes:£100 million this year for 29 projects to improve the road network, such as bridge repairs in Sandwell and improving the A15 in the Humber region. £10 million to unblock the Manchester rail bottleneck, which would begin this year.£1 billion to fund the first 50 projects of a new, 10-year school rebuilding programme, starting from 2020/21. These projects would be confirmed in the autumn, with construction on the first sites to start in September 2021.£900 million for a range of “shovel-ready” local growth projects in England over the course of this year and 2021, so local areas can invest in priority infrastructure projects to drive local growth and jobs, such as the regeneration of key local sites.£96 million for town centres and high streets from the Towns Fund this year. This would provide all 101 towns selected for town deals with £500,000 to £1 million to spend on projects such as improvements to parks, high streets, and transport. The government intends to set up a new infrastructure delivery task force called ‘Project Speed’, to be led by Sunak. It would bring forward proposals to deliver the government’s public investment projects more strategically and efficiently. The task force would aim to cut down the time it takes to develop, design and deliver vital infrastructure projects, including identifying how to address outdated practices and identify blocks to progress. This autumn the government will publish its long-awaited National Infrastructure Strategy.Funding, the government says, would be brought forward to accelerate infrastructure projects in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland – working with the devolved administrations to identify where “we can get spades in the ground, build our communities, and create jobs faster for citizens across the United Kingdom”. Work will be done on how to better connect the four countries by road, rail, air and sea.The green bitThe government explained that it would continue to build on its “proven-track record of cutting emissions” to deliver “a stronger, cleaner, more sustainable economy after this pandemic”. Measures announced today include:Additional funding would be available this year to attract investment in ‘gigafactories’ to mass-produce batteries and other electric vehicle components.£10 million of funding immediately for the first wave of R&D projects to scale up manufacturing of the latest technology in batteries, motors, electronics and fuel cells.Reforesting Britain by planting 75,000 acres of trees every year by 2025.A £40 million Green Recovery Challenge Fund to help to halt biodiversity loss and tackle climate change through local conservation projects, connecting more people to the outdoors by delivering up to 5,000 jobs. The government also said it would continue to set out further measures as part of its green agenda in the run-up to COP26 in November 2021.30 June 2020Laura Edgar, The Plannerhttps://www.planningportal.co.uk/news/article/719/planning_news_-_9_july_2020?utm_source=PPQ+Newsletter&utm_campaign=c7933cce93-Newsletter_11072019_HTML_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_734e0b63a9-c7933cce93-7282665#one

England needs a design quality unit, consortium insists

Any chance LBE will take notice? The government should set up a dedicated Design Quality Unit for England to build on the work of the Building Better, Building Beautiful Commission (BBBBC).This is the conclusion of a consortium of organisations comprising the Academy of Urbanism, Civic Voice, CPRE, Design Council, Place Alliance, Trees & Design Action Group, UCL and Urban Design Group. Citing the Housing Design Audit for England, which The Planner reported on in January this year, the consortium noted that there has been a systematic failure to deliver good quality urban development across England for “decades”, particularly in new developments. The coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic has “emphasised how critical a high-quality built environment is to our everyday sense of wellbeing and how disadvantaged those are who suffer poor conditions inside and out”. This disadvantage could be manifested through poor quality green space and poor access to local facilities. Building on the BBBBC’s work the consortium says government has a “once in a generation” opportunity to show “real” leadership and ambition to make a change. In Delivering Urban Quality, Time to Get Serious, the consortium explains that it will be difficult to deliver the BBBBC’s proposals “without a determined and public effort” by the government, which should harness the knowledge and commitment of the built environment sector. The consortium recommends that a properly resource Design Quality Unit should be set up in England. It should be based on a partnership and networked approach across the country in order to monitor, challenge, inspire and help to deliver “real change”.In a statement, the consortium invited other organisations and individuals to join this call for action. NAJSAREK and BELL

An open letter for Julian Bell.Dear Julian Bell,We have again had contact with Mr Najsarek and again have cause to doubt his integrity and suitability to occupy the post of CEO.  The question of how he managed to gain employment with Ealing Council will not go away. In February 2016, when he was appointed, you wrote: “I am delighted that we have been able to attract someone of Paul’s calibre to Ealing …Paul has an excellent record of achievement in local government”.: All we knew of his record in his previous appointment in Bolton was that he had been in his post there a short while. On June 30 2016, we learned from the national press, that, when he applied for his job here in Ealing, he had taken legal action to prevent his behaviour in his previous employment becoming known.  His “record of achievement” in Bolton was a front-page scandal: he was, it seemed from the reports, a financial liability and a man who could not be trusted to keep his word.  We had been sold or you had bought for us the CEO equivalent of a “dodgy motor”.  Ealing Council did not even see fit to comment on the disquieting disclosure. We cannot blame you for Mr Najsarek’s appointment if you were deceived as we were.  The question is: Were you? Did you already know anything of what appeared in the press on June 30 2016 in respect of Mr Najsarek’s behaviour in Bolton when you appointed him? “Yes” or “No” will do by way of a response, for now.  Your sincerely,Andrew Farmer

GOOD NEWS.

Although we are going through a worldwide crisis, possibly never known so bad in human history, things are going to get better. The Bible promises: "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." ( Revelation 21 v 4.) At present the whole world is going through a period known as the "last days" of a system that is about to be put right.2 Timothy 3:1-5 New International Version (NIV) says:(1)"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. (2) People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, (3) without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, (4) treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— (5) having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people."Is that a huge coincindence or is that an apt description of how many people in the world are today?Luke 21:10-11 New International Version (NIV) states:10 Then he (Jesus) said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events........"What is happening worldwide surely qualifies as seeing fulfillment today. This is the storm before the calm.“ALL creation keeps on groaning together and being in pain together until now.” So said the apostle Paul. (Romans 8:22) Despite advances in medical science, sickness and death continue to plague the human race. How wonderful, then, the promise that climaxes this part of Isaiah’s prophecy! Imagine the time when “no resident will say: ‘I am sick.’” (Isaiah 33:24)

But how will this be enforced?New South WalesUnder the NSW Public Health Act, anyone who enters Australia from another country will be subject to a 14-day self-isolation quarantine, with fines of up to $11,000 or six months’ prison if they do not comply.“Obviously the NSW government – indeed all governments around the country – are not wanting to impose penalties on people,” health minister Brad Hazzard said. “What we’re looking for is cooperation.”The order banning mass gatherings of more than 500 people to stem the spread of coronavirus has also been made under the Public Health Act, with fines of up to $55,000 for corporations who breach that ban and $27,500 for each additional day the event continues.Coronavirus: people not complying with new Australian self-isolation rules could face fines Read moreThe order explicitly excludes gatherings including the ordinary operation of a school, university, Tafe and educational college; the ordinary conduct of a court; public transport; and employees attending a workplace. It will remain in place until 14 June.VictoriaThe Victorian government enacted a four-week state of emergency under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, extending from 12pm Monday to midnight 13 April unless extended. The state of emergency declaration gives authorised officers, such as police, at the direction of the chief health officer, the power to detain people, restrict movement, prevent entry to premises or provide “any other direction an [authorised officer] considers reasonable to protect public health”.Under the directive signed by the chief health officer, it is an offence for a person arriving from overseas to fail to go into self-isolation for 14 days. People must not leave the premises where they are self-isolating except for the purpose of obtaining medical care or supplies; in any other emergency situation; or in circumstances where it is possible to avoid close contact with other persons. They also cannot allow visitors into their home. The penalty for failing to comply is a fine of almost $20,000 for individuals and $100,000 for companies.“We don’t anticipate having to be fining people,” Victorian premier Daniel Andrews said on Monday. “To this point people have been cooperative.”Flight attendants and citizens or permanent residents of a Pacific Island are exempt. The same directive bans mass gatherings of more than 500 people, exempting schools, airports, public transport, markets, workplaces, courts, prisons and youth justice facilities, parliament and public places where people are moving through, such as Bourke Street Mall and Federation Square.Andrews said the powers could be extended to include the lockdown of whole suburbs.QueenslandPeople arriving in Queensland from overseas will be issued with a notice requesting them to voluntarily self-isolate for 14 days. If they breach that notice, the Queensland government says it will “initially work closely with the person to ensure they not only understand their obligations, but also the importance and seriousness of self-quarantine under the current global circumstances”.If that fails, the notice is enforceable under the Public Health Act 2005 with fines of up to $13,345.Queensland has been in a state of emergency since late January and can use those powers to enforce compliance if necessary – but it has repeatedly stated that it is aiming for willing community cooperation.Australian Capital TerritoryThe ACT declared a public health emergency on Monday in response to Covid-19, which gives the chief health officer powers to enforce quarantine provisions, to order the evacuations of public areas, to restrict access to an area, and even to force someone to undergo medical examination.Under those powers, anyone who breaches the order for travellers to self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival in Australia could face a $8,000 fine, under the Public Health Act 1997.Mass gatherings will be policed under the same legislation.Western AustraliaWestern Australian invoked powers under the Emergency Management Act at midnight on Sunday to enforce self-isolation requirements.Under the act, travellers who breach the 14-day self-isolation order are liable for a $50,000 fine or possible jail time. The ban against mass gatherings is enforced under the same legislation, with the same penalty to apply.Northern TerritorySelf-isolation requirements will be enforced under the Notifiable Diseases Act, which carries penalties of $1,256 or six months’ prison for breaching a public health order.Di Stevens, the acting chief health officer, said she expected the community would monitor and police each other to ensure isolation orders were followed.Mass gatherings of more than 500 people have been banned under the Public and Environmental Health Act.That does not include schools, universities, public transport or attending the Darwin markets, chief minister Michael Gunner said.Travel to remote communities for everyone but essential services, supply runs and maintenance runs has also been banned. Gunner said people in remote communities were not being “left alone” during the coronavirus outbreak and would have everything they needed to be healthy and safe.“To protect you, we are keeping nonessential people away from you,” he said. “If you don’t need to travel out of your community, then don’t. Just like the rest of us you are safer in your home community.”Australian leaders consider ban on groups of more than 100 to try to halt coronavirus Read moreSouth AustraliaSouth Australia declared a public health emergency on Sunday. Premier Steven Marshall told AAP the declaration would allow public health officers to take “all the necessary actions required to keep the people of South Australia as safe as we possibly can”.The SA parliament this month passed new laws giving public health officers greater powers to order a person to self-isolate, be detained in a particular place or agree to medical testing.Failure to comply with orders under the revised Public Health Act 2011 carries a maximum fine of $25,000.TasmaniaTasmania was the first state to ban cruise ships from coming into port, and introduced measures banning mass gatherings of more than 500 people, and requiring travellers to self-isolate for 14 days, from midnight on Sunday.Under the Public Health Act in Tasmania, the maximum fine for breaching an order to self-isolate is $8,400.The ban on mass gatherings does not include markets, like Hobart’s Salamanca market, on the justification that those events involve people moving through and are therefore unlikely to result in someone having sustained close contact with a stranger. However school fetes and assemblies have been banned.

Time to Postpone Trade Talks with the EU?

It perplexes me that more people are not raising the obvious question of why we are intending to persist with reshaping our relationship with the EU, a path which will involve a huge amount of dislocation for our economy when the coronavirus is already causing this to happen. This doesn't mean rejoining the EU but postponing the trade talks and remaining aligned with the single market until we are clear of the current crisis. The massive demands that the talks will place on an already overstretched civil service are bound to create a range of difficulties. Our PM is not known for his work ethic but even a more conscientous leader would struggle to cope with the workload that will be placed on them.If we leave the EU during a pandemic we reduce the ability of our universities to work with other institutions in Europe to develop a cure.It has already been reported that outside EU institutions we will not have the same access to EU developed vaccines that hopefully will become available. We have over the past few days had ample demonstration how even minor disruptions to supply chains can lead to hoarding and shortages. If the pandemic is still an issue and any new trading arrangement interrupt the free low of goods, there will be far worse scenes in our local shops and many people will have to go without basic essentials. The notion that freedom of movement presents an extra risk during a pandemic has been thoroughly disproven with EU countries closing their borders to each other for health reasons. If you don't agree that trade talks should be put on hold could you explain to me what are the benefits which outweigh all the negatives detailed above?

Closing event for Matt Small's exhibition at JG Contemporary on Churchfield Road

We are pleased to invite you to the closing event of the “Shine” exhibition this Thursday 5th March, From 6:30 to 9:30PM at JG Contemporary, 45 Churchfield Road, W3 6AY. The focal point of Matt Small's Shine is his portrait of Jamal Edwards MBE. Still work in progress 'Jamal' was commissioned by Acton Unframed for the 5 murals project in and around Acton Central. Acton boy Jamal Edwards was chosen for this mural as an example of a young inspiring person who has worked hard and has achieved so much and continues to give back to his community. Matt took a residency at Bollo Brook Youth Center in November and Jamal was constructed in full view of the Youth Club's young attendees some of who took serious interest in helping Matt. Made entirely from recycled metal and plastic from Acton Recycling Centre and some donations from the locals and Derwentwater School kids, we hope Matt's ‘Jamal’ will shine, inspire and motivate the young generations in W3 and beyond once installed in in it's permanent location. This Thursday, March 5th we will have our final evening for Shine, at the gallery. We invite you to come and check the fantastic works on display, meet Matt and see how he’s transformed the discarded objects into a portraits of young men and women with a dream.About Matt SmallConcerned with how the institutional British social system leaves no room for those on the periphery of society, Small's portraits reminds viewers of the importance of humanity. It comes at no surprise that his raw works have won the Viliers David Art Prize and been nominated for the BP Portrait Award. His haunting works on metal pull the invisible from the city crowds. In a world obsessed with likes and followers on social media, Small's rough-cut and ragged works offer something real. In art history, portraiture has long been associated with the rich or famous, those who can afford to be painted and those who people want to look at. Instead, Small's oeuvre shakes up history by offering diverse subjects.Small finds his sitters by taking to the streets of London with a video camera, to capture his anonymous sitters in their world. In the same place he finds his subjects, Small also finds the materials for his work which includes anything found on the street, from fridges and other household appliances to wrecked cars.Continuing his theme of reusing materials from the city, Small often works with paint that has been thrown away by others, meaning his works are in variety of mediums including household paint and oils. Like his subjects, the physical elements of his works are a product of the urban environment, consisting of pieces that society has disregarded. The new art works incorporate the fluid, colourful, abstracted faces of our youth with geometric designs that merge from the background composition into the portraits. The complexity and rigidness of these patterns and shapes representing that of the city environments that surrounds each of the subjects, contrasting and at the same time, informing and becoming elements of what makes them who they are as people. Look forward to seeing you there. All welcomeJewel

Catalyst and Ealing Council withheld facts about Friary Park

The concern about the loss of light to the millionaires living around Poets Corner in Acton perhaps may get to the truth about Labour councillor Dan Crawford efforts to make Black people homeless through the demolition of the Friary Park estate.Everyone on the estate, indeed anyone who has meet Mr Crawford, knows he is physically incapable of honesty so no one was surprised by his lies on 20th November 2019 that all social housing tenants wanted their homes demolished. He never mentioned what would happen to tenants because he had arranged for all Black families to be excluded from the Locata social housing allocation system. Finally some light can be shed on the work of Ealing Council Director of Regeneration Lucy Taylorfor for Mr Crawford and Catalyst as the Local Government Ombudsman cannot investigate because Ealing Council Chief Executive Paul Najsarek has blocked complains from Friary Park residents regarding her relationships with developers like Mount Anvil and Mary Mescall of Barton Willmore. Mr Najsarek also prevented the Local Government Ombudsman from examining why Lucy Taylor helped Catalyst Housing Group operate an illegal garage on the Friary Park estate for the last 3 years by simply refusing to answer any complaints believing them to have come from Black Londoners. Mr Najsarek is also aware of the judgement against Catalyst Housing Group by the Homes and Communities Agency finally stopping Catalyst selling social housing to its own managers. Ealing Council has made no effort to recover the value of these stolen community assets.Ealing Council and Mr Crawford failed to provide evidence of consultation and arranged no one could challenge him or those being paid by Catalyst last year. Now new Northolt MP James Murray and Kate Crawford, mother of Dan, who has been on Ealing Council since the 1980s, are pressing their long time friend Sadiq Khan to uphold the planning decision and keep everyone in the dark about the bigotry of Paul Najsarek and Dan Crawford knowing journalists are reluctant to write about other NUJ members.

Factory Quarter residents parking rights threatened by Ealing Council Planning application - object

Cobbold Mews is a larger version of a scheme rejected by Ealing Council (PP/2009/1912) back in 2009.The current proposal by Lemon Land threatens the rights of 100 Factory Quarter residents to park on the land next to Thames Water’s Storm Tanks - The parking rights were granted under a “s106” legal agreement with LBHF - If you want to protect your FQ rights to park, object asap to this planning application – urgently and here’s the weblink to go to make comments and objecthttps://pam.ealing.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=PWN8HMJMGL000The overall construction is estimated to last 2+ years and there are no proposals in the planning application to help people who lose their parking space. The local road network is one way dominated by narrow one way roads passing a nursery school and used by local industry - it’s not safe!If you need more detail about the s106 agreement, read on....* The Factory Quarter development was known as the site of Prestolite Electric Ltd Larden Road W3 7RP Application 2006/02023/FUL * The s106 agreement online states under the heading "Allocation of Car Parking Spaces" at clause 12.1 (p13 of Agreement) "The Owner shall provide no less than 269 car parking spaces and no more than 280 car parking spaces within the Development that being no less than 166 car parking spaces and no more than 177 within the Site and 103 car parking spaces within the Off Site Car Park."clause 12.2 "The Owner shall ensure that all of the 103 car parking spaces in the Off Site Car Park are available for use by occupiers of the Development and the Owner shall not permit their use by any person who is not a occupier of or a bona fide visitor to the Developmentclause 12.3 "The Owner covenants that it shall not use nor occupy nor permit the use or occupation of all or part of the Development until it has laid out and made available the 103 spaces within the Off Site Car Park and the Council has given its written approval of the lay out... "[unfortunately p14 of the Agreement is the only missing page in the agreement online. It has been requested by an FOI but to date not provided]* The exact placement of the car parking spaces, required by condition 12 was set out in the s106 Agreement with the plan for the car parking is set out here in 'allocation of standard car parking spaces' being approved by LBHF at the following link:https://public-access.lbhf.gov.uk/online-applications/files/9CB3519BC4729C28AB975FC907402594/pdf/2010_01842_DET-PARKING_LAYOUT_269-641536.pdf* The developer Lemon Land now wishes to put these underground - in a basement car park to be constructed as the full width of the car park, notwithstanding that the site is boundaries to the north by the Thames Water sewerage tanks (to which Thames Water has objected) and Greenend Road/Worcester Drive/ Hawkshead Road houses to the south. * This is (a) not permitted under the current agreement and (b) should not be permitted should there be any attempt by the developer to vary the conditions. * A basement car park - if ever constructed would be unacceptable to the FQ residents as (i) this is a material change to the car parking provision they agreed - it is inferior and less convenient particularly for those with mobility issues/ young children/ anxiety, who would be required to descend into the car park by car and then walk to a single centre mid point to access stairs / a lift and then walk back a significant distance - past apartment blocks to exit the car parking site - so a longer walk than currently. Plus the added insecurity of having a lift which may break down necessitating a walk up stairs plus the lack of visibility in a basement car park which may lead to security fears, particularly if the development site has open pedestrian access. * The proposal also involves FQ residents with car parking spaces negotiating a one way basement car park and using a single turning head at the far end of the site, whereas the existing provision permits to turn wherever they consider appropriate, without negotiating a housing development and its proposed residents (numbering more than 100 living on site). (ii) the construction of a basement car park / basic elements of the development would be (conservatively) two years during which time the existing spaces would be out of action.* There is a traffic assessment for the proposed Ealing car park development (named 'Cobbold Mews') which seemingly took place on a single day during a half term. It does not accord with residents' / neighbours experience of the car park and our own daily vehicle count shows a minimum of 80 cars on site on a daily basis. I am writing this a part of SPTRA, the Residents Association for all the homes next to this development in nearby Greenend Rd – they lose privacy as this development over looks all their bedrooms. We think this application will be heard at the Ealing Planning Committee on March 18th so time is not on our side. ObjectThank you

Is our real problem Ealing's pension deficit?

Watching the rugby at the weekend I got into conversation with another group of people who were in the same bar and it turned into a very convivial afternoon. Given the result we wanted to talk about something more cheery so natuarally the subject switched to pensions rather than the match. The chap I was talking to seemed to know his stuff and told me that Ealing Council in particular had a major problem with their fund which was running a very substantial deficit. He said most local authorities had an issue because fewer people were joining council schemes because of outsourcing and head count reduction and more and more people were retiring and living longer but Ealing's short fall was more than most. He also said that at some point soon, just like many companies the borough will have to start covering the deficit which could be in the region of half a billion. There is no prospect that scheme income will make it self funding because, although head count has reduced, average salaries have increased significantly and generous early retirement packages remain in place. He said that Ealing like many other councils have reduced costs by persuading people to take retirement. This is actually more expensive but pushes when it needs to be paid for out into the future. His estimate was that by the end of this decade local taxes would need to double to make sure the pension fund was adequately funded.I really don't know enough about pensions and the way they work to know if this is alarmist nonesense or a timely warning. I have heard people say similar things before. It there anyone with expertise in these matters who could comment?

Who will buy the new flats in Acton?

Few of the 50,000 Ealing Council claim now have legal status will buy any of the properties covered in the article. On the other hand shared ownership is something the Labour Party is very keen on having arranged loans for local landlords like Catalyst Housing Group with the £70 million alowing them to buy the 132 properties in South Acton from which they make huge profits from without a penny coming back to Council Taxpayers. The 990 flats that Catalyst have permission to build on the Friary Park Estate following the rigged 20th November planning meeting will be marketed as share ownership through Catalyst's unique Equity Loans. It is unique because Catalyst's promises borrowers that should they have to claim Housing Benefit they will receive the maximum amount because of their partnership with Ealing Council. Borrowers will pay a minimum of £345 per week for a 25% equity in flats that will be little more than dog boxes designed by Anne Markey of Phelan Architects and a member of Catalyst board. Their real problems will come when they try to claim Housing Benefit because any payments they get will fall far short of their loan commitments. As in the 40 other local authorities in which Catalyst operates they will seek possession when the borrowers fall 1 month behind, have the borrowers evicted and move in new tenants. Catalyst Housing Group have aways made it clear they intended to keep possession of all their new builds and this is how they do it. Estate agents and District Courts have long been aware of the huge turnover in Catalyst's share ownership tenants but those covering Acton's property market fail to discuss this or how much Catalyst and local politicians like Labour councillor Dan Crawford are making. Crawford, who runs the Locata social housing allocation system that has seen his friends like Cecilia Aridegbe moved into new central Ealing upmarket development Dicken's Yard and only pay the social rent of £124 per week, will not be supportive of share ownership tenants as Councllor Yvonne Johnson demonstarted with those living in Catalyst's rat infested South Acton properties.

Pollution from Heathrow planes is reaching Central London, study shows

And "They" want to expand it?!!!   SOURCE: Evening Standard   https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/pollution-from-heathrow-planes-is-reaching-central-london-study-shows-a4325546.htmlPollution from planes using Heathrow airport has been detected in central London, researchers revealed today.A breakthrough study by King’s College London is the first to find that airports are a major source of ultra-fine particles that are harmful to health. Results from air quality monitoring stations in north Kensington and in Marylebone Road — about 14 miles from the airport — were used to estimate levels of the particles in the air. These were greatest when blown in from the airport on a westerly wind.Ultra-fine particles are produced by fuel burning and are a subset of PM2.5 particles that are most commonly emitted from traffic brakes and tyres. The smaller the particle, the deeper they can penetrate into the lungs. Ultra-fine particles have been linked to brain cancer. The King’s study, in Environment International, measured emissions from four European airports — the others were Barcelona, Zurich and Helsinki — between 2007-17.Heathrow was chosen instead of other airports serving London due to its proximity to the detectors used by the London Air Quality Network. It had the highest concentration of ultra-fine particles compared with the three continental airports.Traffic emissions remain the biggest source of ultra-fine particles. At airports, they occur when planes are taxiing into position, flying low and especially when taking off. While there are EU restrictions on PM2.5 vehicle emissions, the same controls do not exist for aircraft.Dr Ioar Rivas, author of the study, said: “We expected traffic emissions to be an important source of ultra-fine particles in cities but we now know that airport emissions, even if located at the outskirts of the city, can travel far enough and reach population in urban areas.”Researchers said PM pollution sources needed to be “disentangled” to create policies to cut emissions. The study will now assess the impact of particles on hospital admissions and mortality. Dr Gary Fuller, senior lecturer in air pollution measurement at King’s, said: “Cities around Europe have policies to reduce airborne particles from traffic…but aircraft emissions are not being addressed in the same way.”

Rupa Huq unfit for public office

Rupa Huq Unfit for public office. When asked to condemn a landlord who had tenants living in filth and fire-hazard for years and the council officer who perversely reappointed him as fit to preside over an HMO, Rupa Huq failed to respond.  She put protecting the reputation of the local Labour council above care for the safety of her constituents. She has failed to respond to representations from constituents whose lives are being made a misery by a gang of Ukrainians who conduct a trading activity outside their homes and threaten and attack residents, all this occurring due to the negligence of Ealing Council. She defended the anti-semitic posts of Naz Shah.   All she could say in her own defence was that she was naïve.  She is over forty and supposedly well-educated. I want something better than “naïve” for my MP, especially when it leads to defending anti-semitic obscenities such as saying “everything Hitler did was legal” and suggesting the SOLUTION (sinister word) for the Israel/Palestinian problem was relocating Israel in the USA.    When asked to condemn Shah’s post and condemn her for anti-semitism, she ignored the correspondence.  She failed to condemn. She condoned.  She is as bad as Shah. When asked to condemn the violent language of Jess Phillips, who wrote she would knife Jeremy Corbyn “in the front, not the back” if it looked like he was damaging the party’s chances of electoral success, she failed to respond to the correspondence.  She failed to condemn the words.  She condoned them.  She is as bad as Phillips.    When asked to condemn Shah, who shared a tweet saying child abuse victims “should keep their mouths shut” for the sake of Diversity and next posted a tribute to Winnie Mandela with a “meme”  which promoted murdering people by putting a tyre round their necks and burning them to death, she failed to respond to the correspondence.  She failed to condemn the words.  She condoned them.  She is as bad as Shah.  She defended the use of halal slaughter, condemned by the RSPCA, and did so in total ignorance of scientific evidence.  She condemned as racists a group of people of whom she knew nothing for no other reason than that they  opposed it according to their own moral values. She was intolerant of other people’s beliefs.  The accusation was unfounded and defamatory. She was accused of anti-semitic behaviour by staff. The supposed investigation was held in secret. When asked for a transcript of the proceedings, her representative made the idiotic excuse that it could not be released because it would undermine the independence of the investigation.  How could a report of an investigation affect its independence once it has been concluded!  She also misrepresented the verdict of “insufficient evidence” and declared Huq had been completely exonerated.   A vote for Huq is a vote for tolerance of anti-semitic hate-speech and violent language by MPs and unfounded accusations against people who happen to disagree with Islamic practices.  It is a vote for indifference to the conditions in which people in HMOs are obliged to live.  And, if you have hope that Labour Party concern for the humane treatment of animals will lead to banning unstunned slaughter, I think you know how Huq would vote.  Carry on slitting the throats of the lambs of God!  When you vote, vote for whomsoever you judge best placed to rid us of the shame of having Huq as our MP.

General Election and Moral Issues

Hustings interesting. Rupa Huq boasting about her Muslim heritage at the mosque despite not wearing a head dress out of respect. Sonul Badiani did wear a headdress.  Julian Gallant looks a bit out of his depth as no real political experience outside of Acton. Dr Crossland speaks to people as if she is a primary school teacher and they are kids. Renew Party candidate and the Brexit candidate Samir Alsoodani airbrushed out by the local media. All spouted their respective party lines. What really surprised was that not one candidate addressed the expected push in the next parliament for amendments to the Abortion legislation to bring it in line with Northern Ireland - legal up to birth itself.  Indeed Dr Crossland has already signed up to support this through the Planned Parenthood “pledge” document. Surprised that Rupa Huq did not boast about the Mattock Lane Abortion Centre ban on vigils and prayers in the near vicinity that she drove through virtually single handed and posed for a group photo with Planned Parenthood. There will be electorate who want to know the candidates stance on womens’ issues such as abortion, pregnancy discrimination against women, stop discrimination against baby girls and lower the abortion time limit. All in the “Both Lives Matter Pledge” which Rupa Huq, Sonul Badiani, Julian Gallant have declined to sign up to despite being invited to. Dr Crossland makes no bones about her position - abortion up to birth itself for any reason. Think about this before choosing your candidate!

Friary Park Redevelopment Gets Green Light

I have been writing about Labour Party corruption and racism for over 40 ye4ars so actions Julian Bell and Yvonne Johnson that are forcing Black Londoners out of their homes comes as no surprise.Planning Committee  of 20 Nov 2019 01 - 193424HYBRID  Friary Park Estate: The Drive, Joseph Avenue, Sparks Close and Friary Road Acton W3 6NL Declarations of Interests. etc: Young for Morrissey; Mahmood for L Wall; and Manro for Donnelly who all have pages on www.Ealing.gov.uk but no Facebook page that would allow for more transparency in local government. Some Councillors Manro, Ball, Cox, Mahmood, Martin, Raza, R Wall and Woodroofe have visited the estate unlike Sarah Rooney and other Labour Councillor. The all claimed appropriate expenses. Before FPPG begins broadcasting videos of these Councillors the appropriate authorization will be sent to their Ealing Council phones and emails. The Committee noted that the site consisted of 230 dwellings that were in poor condition.  The Committee are all home owners, with Liberal Democrat Jon Bell worth over £20 million. A high proportion of the current properties were below existing residential space standards for new build properties, had little access to outdoor space and poor energy efficiency. Catalyst Housing Group here in Ealing and in 40 other local authorities are responsible.Q1 for Manro, Jon Ball et al. Were they aware of the London Borough of Ealing arranging a £70 million for CHG prior to the £30 million Ealing council tax payers are indebted with to demolish these family homes? All refused to answer.Q2 Have they seen the result of that shared ownership Catalyst Housing Group in South Acton or just read about the rat infestation in the sun?All refused to answerQ3 Do they know how much CHG directors and brokers made at the British taxpayers expense? All refused to answerThese questions should be answered by someone at Ealing Council. Why do we subsides the profits of Community Assets Owners at the expense of social housing tenants, is a point I will make again to Mr Young. I do not see the  estate as badly laid out, think people should have space and dispute the fact that the design of the estate encouraged antisocial behaviour. Bad management by CHG is the root cause here. I say that as someone who has lived on the estate since July 27, 1989. Daniel Crawford can actually provide any future committee members with evidence and I don't need those. He can also post our correspondence with Dr Huq regarding Catalyst Housing Group directors and staff racially harassing tenants. The CHG scheme may provide 990 new homes, of which 45% would be affordable, along with a replacement community centre, flexible commercial floorspace, landscaping, no social housing but car and cycle parking. Architects for South Housing could have provided 450 social for only £276 million. Nether Catalyst nor Ealing Council were willing to even consider this proposalCurrent social rent for 1 bed room £124. Minimum shared owners loan repayments on for 1 bed room is £345 per week under this Socialist schemes profits banks like Natwest and Santander. All SOWLRs get maximum Housing Benefit in 140 Labour controlled local authorities in England. It is clear the Committee wants all social housing demolished and Richard Brown CBE, banks and brokers to make millions all at the taxpayers expense. Yhe London Borough of Ealing has still not got back to me regarding my complaint is that the Environmental Statement prepared for the Committee failed to comply with the Environmental Impact Assessment regulations and my repeated complaints about what the Planning Department had been identified as ways to mitigate negative environmental impacts of the development are contrived to suit Richard Brown. This is precisely the matter I have raised with Sadiq Kahn and the GLA, the Homes and Communities Agency and the Environmental Law Foundation. The recommendation from Officers was to grant planning permission subject to a stage II referral to the Mayor of London and I can follow that. Obviously had I been allowed to attend I would have raised the matter of Locata which Labour Councillors refuse to discuss. I just feel that Londoners should not be forced out of their homes for individual profit.I would have supported Ms Jan Gayle-Fallow of the Central Acton Neighbourhood Forum: Regeneration of the estate but the scale of the building was too high and not in keeping with the area. There would be negative impacts on existing residents due to the increased number of new residents in the replacement scheme. Negative impact on existing residents would include pressure on existing GP surgeries and schools, as well as increased use of existing open space. All the FPPG was refused permission to present their case for taking over their own blocks and being allowed pets I need to point out 1. FPPG2017 Steve Skuse, of Catalyst Housing refuses to return calls or answers letters. He is a know bully whose actives actually subject to an article published in The Guardian.2.  FPP2014-EFHA Cecilia Aridegbe, spoke in favour of the application. Ms A is a long term associate of Richard Brown who enjoys EU funding as well as having London Council taxpayers funding her the taxis does not live on the Friary Park estate. Just the daughter there now. I am informed by former neighbours she was content with the £8,000 payment and move to Dickens Yard in Ealing where she continues to pay social rent of £124 per week. The Friary Park Residents Steering Group was run by CHG staff like current Customer Liaisons Officer Keisha Scott, a Catalyst Housing Neighbourhood co-ordinator on their Quill projectKeisha.Scott@chq.orq.uk 020 8832 3418.Apparently their representation made the following arguments: 1. A range of other options had been considered by the developer to regenerate the site, including refurbishing the existing estate. However they were not financially viable. FPPG want access to essential information CHG denied to their tenants as Richard Brown CBE claims this profit as surplus in order to avoid British tax.2. The market sale properties provided on the site would finance the replacement affordable units, and the new intermediate units.FPPG want to know who provided the Committee with housing price information as it affects everyone. CHG are advertising at £387,000 for a single bedroom. Several of the Buckingham staff are changing fees in arrange CHG Equity Loans.3. The current residents of the estate were broadly in favour of the redevelopment, as the current flats were cramped, in poor condition, expensive to heat, had no lifts and there was little access to outdoor space.FPPG want to know who provided the Committee with this information due to CHG not sending out questionnaires since 2015.I am more than satisfied with the work the Council staff do for Councillor Daniel Crawford, the Ward Councillor who clearly never spoke to the Committee representing FPPG or any Roman Catholic or Buddhist objectors. His party is under investigation for anti-Semitism so I will make not further comment but that Dr Rupa Huq also refused to mediate with Catalyst Housing Group on behalf of tenants who Catalyst Housing tried to evict for rent arrears less than they were due to receive in Housing Benefit.I did not expect Mr Crawford to anything as important as Locata in a public forum because the social housing allocation system has been manipulated to move Ealing Council staff. The Committee heard nothing from current residents, where they were going to go and I am grateful that Ealing Council has made that perfectly clear.

Councillor jailed over £125K housing scam - ring any bells?! 😆

Ex-Tower Hamlets councillor Muhammad Harun jailed over £125,000 housing scam (Evening Standard by RACHAEL BURFORD 18.11.19)A former London councillor has been jailed for 16 months for a housing scam that cost the local authority £125,000.Muhammad Harun, 49, bid for “hundreds of social rent properties” in Tower Hamlets while owning a home in Barking he bought for £230,000 in 2007.While living in social housing in Poplar, he then purchased his parents’ house in Solander Gardens, Wapping, with a Right to Buy discount. Those who own their own home cannot legally bid for council housing but Harun amassed the two properties, now worth an estimated £750,000, over the 10 years he lived in low-rent accommodation. The council estimated it cost about £12,000 a year to house Harun as a social housing tenant. The fraud was uncovered seven months after he was elected as a Tower Hamlets Labour councillor in May 2018.Defending, Shaun Murphy said: “He has suffered since [the fraud was discovered]. His career lies in tatters.”Jailing Harun at Snaresbrook crown court on Thursday last week, Judge Sanders said: “You were a beneficiary of accommodation you were not entitled to.”Harun is the third Tower Hamlets councillor in seven years to be convicted of housing fraud. At an earlier hearing he pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud. Very informative article on Council's Legal Obligations to keep streets etc clean:-

And how to complain effectively and "get the job done."I imagine many on here will find it useful?!    🙂Is Your Street Blighted With Litter? It's Your Council's Responsibility To Tidy It Up - BY LONDONISTLitter problems? The sight of rubbish-strewn streets is unfortunately not uncommon in London. But did you know that under Environmental Law, local authorities should be keeping public spaces clear of litter at all times?Owen Ward from Save Bloomsbury sets out four steps to put things right:1. Pick up the litter yourselfIf you want a job doing... Sounds like an odd thing to say, but if your problem isn't particularly bad, it might be easier to do the work yourself. Littering is part of a vicious cycle; when people see litter, they litter more. Put a spanner in the spokes: get together with friends and family and give the street a blitz. Litterbugs will be far less likely to drop litter if your street is already clean and tidy. Other locals may be thankful, and offer to chip in too.In busy areas, this isn't always possible, and on some roads, the lack of a bin means people see no alternative to dropping litter. In which case it's time to get your local authority involved.2. Report the problem to your councillorsSome people, it would seem, are unable to readIf you're lucky, you'll have a decent councillor. It's their job to fix problems like these for you. It's easy to find their contact details online, and if you explain that you're not happy at the state of your street, nine times out of 10, a street cleaner will be sent out to put things right. This is because under Environmental Law, when litter problems are reported, they should be cleaned up by the local authority within a day or so. Hopefully if you explain that it is a recurrent issue, they will send cleaners out more regularly to your road, or install a new bin. That is because under Environmental Law, roads should be kept clear of litter.Unfortunately some councillors are better at listening than others. What do you do if yours isn't sympathetic to your problem?3. Start keeping a photo diary, and quote Environmental LawAmazing how councillors can start taking note when you quote the law at them. Evidence is key. If your councillor doesn't take you at your word, they can't ignore your photos. Take a photo of your road every day and send it to the same councillor — and consider forwarding it to other councillors. If you can, get a timestamp on the photos. Try to take photos of the same places every day to show that nothing is changing. Get your friends and family to do the same thing. At this point you can start quoting Environmental Law (this may help nudge them into action). You can use the official-sounding phrases "I am aggrieved by the defacement of my street by litter and refuse" and "You are in breach of your duty s89(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990". These are the relevant phrases in Environmental Law that means your local authority has to act.4. Contact your MPTry complaining higher up the chain. By the time you start quoting the law, local authorities move quickly to put things right. That is because if they don't within five days, it is possible for you to take them to court, and they can face paying tens of thousands in legal fees. In the end, it is easier and cheaper for them to clean up your road! But in a minority of cases, even the three steps above won't do the trick. Then it's time to contact your MP.It is their job to represent you and fix your troubles. Send a few photos to them and maybe get other people to do the same. Your MP will then contact the right person in the Council and ask them to fix the problem.Don't be afraid to pester...In the end, it is not any one of the steps above that will keep your street clean for good — it is simply the persistent pestering that lets the local authority know not to mess with you and your neighbours. Especially if they think that you know the law well, they will be reluctant to cross you. We have seen this many times – After advising residents and businesses on what to do, the local authority will not get their act together over their whole area, but will put a special effort into keeping your road clean and tidy. I have led a movement in Bloomsbury, which falls under Camden Council to bring clean streets to the whole area.Although I have not yet succeeded, I now hardly ever see a spot of litter from my own window...Last Updated 23 September 2019(Source:  LONDINIST  https://londonist.com/london/features/litter-rubbish-problems-council-who-contact  ]

Five "marched out" over fraud claims at Wandsworth and Richmond Councils

Cold sweats at The Ealing Kremlin?  We live in hope.Evening Standard (today) - Benedict Moore-Bridger Five members of staff have been suspended by Wandsworth and Richmond councils over allegations of fraud, the Standard has learned. They are accused of having “inappropriate” relationships with contractors connected to tendering for building services. Sources said the team, which includes a manager and is part of the housing and regeneration directorate, was “marched” from offices last month.A source said: “Five people have been suspended pending an investigation. They are within the facilities team, managed by the director of housing and regeneration. “It is about inappropriate individual relationships with contractors — that is where the investigation has started — and now they are looking at tangential matters such as things like overtime claims, and there are managers involved. “They had to hand in their phones and were marched out of the building. The police are not involved at this stage, but possibly they will be.”Interim staff have been brought in to cover the suspensions and senior members of the council have been briefed on what has happened. The facilities management team operates across Wandsworth and Richmond councils under a shared staffing arrangement. It sits in the property services department within the housing and regeneration directorate and provides services including mechanical, electrical and building maintenance, cleaning, security, catering, and events management. The head of the facilities management team is responsible for an in-house service of up to 100 directly employed staff as well as specialist contracts. In a statement, a spokesman for the two local authorities said: “We are investigating five members of staff employed by the shared staffing arrangement for Richmond and Wandsworth councils. “These members of staff are currently suspended pending the outcome of that investigation and until it has been concluded it would be inappropriate to comment further. “Both councils take allegations of wrongdoing extremely seriously.”

Is Ealing Central and Acton a safe seat for Labour?

I've had a number of conversations in the area about what seems likely to be a general election in the near future. Nearly everybody I have spoken to voted Labour in the last election, these included not just life-long Labour party supporters but dyed in the wool Tories and floating voters. The reasons were various but boiled down to three main factors with Brexit being the main one obviously. The other factors most often mentioned were Theresa May's social care plans and the belief that there was zero chance of Jeremy Corbyn becoming prime minister.Given that Rupa Huq is widely acknowledged to be a good constituency MP and she won a massive majority last time out it may seem preposterous to think in terms of her not winning at the next vote. However, it shouldn't be forgotten that she previously held the seat with a tiny majority and it was initially expected that she might not win.My unrepresentative sample suggests that circumstances this time will deprive her of some of the votes she had before. Jeremy Corbyn being prime minister is a much more likely scenario which means that disaffected Tories and many habitual Labour voters are not going to back her. Also her huge majority was in large part a protest vote against Brexit. Although her personal record on the subject is impeccable, her party's is not and many people wanting to signal support for remaining in the EU are going to vote Lib Dem. Plus this time the Greens will probably stand losing her more votes.Whether or not these changes are enough to put the seat at risk is debatable but Rupa probably needs to brace herself for a much reduced majority. It will be interesting to see the resources the Tories committ to the constituency because they will probably need a few surprise results to form a government and no doubt Dominic Cummings is looking very closely at all the data.

Friars Gardens - lady didn't pick up after her Cockapoo pooed at 10.40am today

As a resident involved in the gardening of Friars Gardens, I am tired of seeing - from my study window overlooking the green - dog walkers ambling off (or looking at their mobile phones) while their dog is squatting and clearly about to poo.  At each gardening session, we regularly find 5 to 6 fresh dollops of dog mess. We're tired of treading in it. And we want children to use the green, but dog poo is highly toxic and can blind, so dog-walkers who don't pick up are selfishly preventing kids from sharing the green. Dog poo is also really damaging to the plants, it doesn't just harmlessly degrade. This morning at roughly 10.40 whilst opening my curtains in my front bedroom, I saw a beautiful largish fluffy toffee-coloured dog - perhaps a Cockapoo or some kind of poodle cross - squatting at the southern tip of the green. The owner was some way away, but when the dog started to squat, she saw this and turned her back and walked further away. She did not come and check, but I did. A big fresh dollop of poo under the birch tree. She had gone by the time I got fully dressed and out there, but otherwise I would have spoken with her.So if anyone knows this person (lady in her fifties with shortish hair), please tell her that we know what she looks like and her distinctive looking dog and we will be looking out for her. We speak to the park ranger regularly about offenders and moreover he has the power to issue Fixed Penalty Notices. If you use Friars Gardens to walk your dog, we are delighted to welcome you, but it is not your dog's toilet, so bring a bag, watch your dog and please please pick-up.

Ground Penetrating Radar Scan.

I am a True Crime Writer and Television Investigative Consultant. I have for the past 14 years been researching the horrendous crimes committed by Abertillery-born Harold Jones. In 1921, Jones then aged 15 murdered 2 Abertillery, Wales schoolgirls, Freda Burnell aged 8 and 11 year-old Florence Little. After being released from prison in 1941 Jones served 5 years in the army before settling in Fulham, Putney and finally Hammersmith where he died in 1971. Jones used a number of names during his time in London - first Harold Jones, then Harry Stevens and finally Harry Jones. Research has led myself and many criminal experts to believe that Jones went on to become the serial killer known as the Hammersmith Nudes' Killer (1959-1965.) https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/488557/is-this-man-the-real-jack-the-stripper/These 8 unsolved killings have over the past 11 years been given much media attention. In 2011 a one hour drama documentary titled Fred Dinenage Murder Casebook - Harold Jones -The Welsh Killer has been shown repeatedly on various satellite Channels worldwide. (Google Harold Jones -The Welsh Killer.) This led to a major 90 minute national television documentary which was shown in January and February 2019. (Google Dark Son - The Hunt For A Serial Killer to see trailers.) In the early 1960's Jones using the name Harry Stevens  had lived in Fulham, 2 streets away from 3rd nudes's victim Hannah Tailford. In 1964 and 1965 whilst living in Putney under the name Harry Stevens, he was AT THE SAME TIME occupying a rented house in Hammersmith using the name Harry Jones. This was 2 streets away from 7th nudes victim Frances Brown and 8th nudes' victim Bridget O'Hara. It is my belief that there may be trophies buried in the garden at Hammersmith and the owner has now given me permission to use ground-penetrating radar to detect any such evidence.I am trying to locate someone in the film or media industry or anyone else who would be willing to cover the cost of the scan and record the garden being scanned. (Approximately 70 square metres.)On top of the circumstantial evidence regarding Jones living just 2 streets away from 3 of the murder victims below are a few more startling links.(1) Jones' own daughter has indicated that her father would leave her and her mother at home at the times of the killings and book into Rowton House, a doss house in Hammersmith whenever her parents would have a row. The daughter stated that she now believes her father would do this in fear that he may kill his wife in temper. Jones' own son-in-law stated that "There's no smoke without fire is there?"(2) Bridget O'Hara, the 8th victim was last seen leaving a pub near Rowton House on 11 January 1975 - Jones' birthday.(3) The person believed to be the killer had in 1964 shown one woman (a prostitute) a Metropolitan Police warrant card after she had got into his car. She stated that she felt very uncomfortable and made an excuse to get out of the vehicle. The driver gave her some cash before she got out. I believe the person was Harold Jones who was using the warrant card that had belonged to John Widdows, Jones father-in-law who had died just 2-3 years earlier. Widdows was a former London Metropolitan Police officer. Jones daughter stated that she still possessed her grandfather's retirement clock and Widdows may have possibly kept his warrant card when he retired.(4) At least 4 of the 8 murder victims were stored in a disused electricity sub-station on the Heron Trading Estate in East Acton. This was about 4 miles from Jones' rented property in Hammersmith. Jones daughter claims that her father worked in ACTON at the time of the murders but couldn't or wouldn't reveal which business premises he had worked at.(5) Jones left prison in 1941 after refusing treatment or discussing his crimes with the relevant authorities. The prison authorities noted that Jones, right to the day he was released showed no remorse for his crimes in Wales. Just shortly before his release the prison governor stated: "Sad as it seems, I can see no hopeful prospects for Jones in the future." The prison chaplain described Jones as "a no hoper." And then Jones was released onto an unsuspecting public possibly in the hope he would get killed in Libya where he served 5 years in the army.I am in contact with relatives of 6 of the 8 murder victims and they all (especially adult children of these women) are keen to know the identity of the killer in their lifetime. I am now 67 years old and I would like to know for sure the killer's identify in my lifetime. If anyone would like to come on board with this matter or have any practical suggestions I can be contacted at n.milkin@sky.com or 07989555376. Deadline For Comments On Friary Park Redevelopment

Once again www.Acton3W.com demonstrates how pathetic its service is by failing to provide the link necessary, https://pam.ealing.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?keyVal=PVLSE9JM0GW00&activeTab=summaryTodays post comes 2 weeks after the application was received on 29 Jul 2019, the day after Ealing Council Director of Regeneration and Planning Lucy Taylor acknowledged she was not doing her job because she have attended the MIPIM junket in Cannes. Ms Taylor was informed in May 2019 that the Environmental Impact Assessment on the Friary Park Estate, Acton, London W3 for application No. 191539SCO written by her friend Mary Mescall of Barton Willmore, who also attended MIPIM junket in Cannes, was deliberately misleading and omited crucial information necessary for a planning committee to make an informed decision. Yet the application proceeds.Because of all the time Ms Taylor spent abroad this year she claimed to be unaware the Mayor of London had stated no social housing in London was to be demolished but clearly Julian Bell is willing to break with Sadiq Khan to help his friends at Mount Anvil and Catalyst just as he has done with A2Dominion.Catalyst say that all existing social housing tenants on the estate will be offered a new home in the development which is a blatant lie. Mary Mescall failed to mention the "Friary Park Steering Group" set up and funded by Catalyst, consisting of its employees who held meetings which excluded single parents, the elderly and the disabled. Councillor Abdullah Gulaid attended these meetings, praised Catalyst for providing housing and employment for Black people and has helped them break the law by bypassing the Locata system of social housing allocation. Labour support Mount Anvil and Catalyst Housing Group efforts to force disabled and elderly people out of London through their illegal ‘Residents’ Charter but had Mary Mescall been competent and honest she would have reported that Catalyst have broken social housing allocation law and moved selected tenants into the new Dickens Yard development where they continue to pay social rent of £124 per week.

LBE now legally required to declare CIL monies received.

Expect much squirming at The Ealing Kremlin?NONE too soon of course, this was looooooooong overdue and is bound to be a revealing eye opener, especially regarding all The Towers.https://www.housingtoday.co.uk/news/councils-forced-to-spell-out-details-of-cil-deals/5101382.article?fbclid=IwAR1t9yY-br8cwQ0CkHl491MleyCZuFHix8T514_mgbyYCqxy0zpSTT2y3ME#.XW4pa8L-yp0.facebookCouncils forced to spell out details of CIL dealsBy Hamish Champ2 September 2019Housing minister said residents shouldn’t be left ‘in the dark’ over how much councils receive from developersLocal councils are being forced to publish full details of how much cash they receive from developers to fund local infrastructure work around new housing schemes.Housing minister Esther McVey said reforms to the planning rules governing the community infrastructure levy (CIL) meant residents would know how much money was being spent by their local council on infrastructure such as roads or new schools. The new rules, which came into effect yesterday, meant councils will have to publish details of the deals they had struck with developers “so residents can see exactly how money will be spent investing in the future of their community”, McVey said. And from December next year local authorities will also have to publish an annual report spelling out the all the CIL agreements agreed with developers in the previous 12 months. Many councils already publish details of such funding arrangements, according to the Local Government Association (LGA).McVey said builders “spent a whopping £6bn towards local infrastructure in 2016/17” but councils had not been required to report on the total amount of funding they had received or how it was spent, “leaving residents in the dark”.She went on: “The new rules … will allow residents to know how developers are contributing to the local community when they build new homes, whether that’s contributing to building a brand new school, roads, or a doctor’s surgery that the area needs.”In another move, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has published new planning practice guidance, which the department said “seeks to further simplify advice on the CIL regime, helping communities and developers understand what is required”.The MHCLG said restrictions would also be relaxed around allowing councils the chance to fund single larger infrastructure projects from cash received from multiple schemes.Responding to the government’s announcement on detailing CIL payments, the LGA’s planning spokesman, David Renard, said: “Councils support the principle of infrastructure funding statements showing how much developers’ money is spent on local communities, and many councils already publish them.“This work needs to be fully funded and councils also need sufficient lead-in time.“The government should further reform the CIL in the upcoming Spending Round. This includes removing national exemptions, which reduce the amount of funding to invest in critical infrastructure to facilitate development, and allowing them to be decided by councils at a local level.”SOURCE:   Housing Today.CREDIT:    Libby Kemp for publicising.

Love Clean Streets app and removal of flytips

Is anyone else having trouble with the Love Clean Streets app and having flytips cleared?Over the past few weeks I have reported numerous flytips on the East Acton Golf Links estate and although I have received emails stating the jobs have been completed some are still present. The first was on St Andrew's Road and reported on 30th July but no email acknowledgement was received (even though the record is visible on the app). I therefore reported it again on 2nd August. On Monday 5th August an email was received saying the job had been completed but the rubbish was still there. I sent an email about this to our three councillors but none replied so, on Friday, 9th August, I reported it again. Three days later I received another email saying it had been cleared when it hadn't. Getting nowhere I decided to resort to Twitter (even though I'd never used it before!). This eventually generated a response from Ealing Customer Services only for me to be told the references I was quoting did not relate to St Andrew's Road but to Glendun Road which is on the opposite side of the A40 Western Avenue (despite the records I was looking at on the app and through my account on the council's web site having the correct information) and being told to "double check the location on your reports in future". I replied stating I have lived in St Andrew's Road for almost 35 years and, as chair of the Residents' Association, am probably better qualified than most to identify the area on a map and objected to their comment. I also pointed out the records contained the text "St Andrew's Road W3 7NE near the junction with A40 (side of 54 Western Avenue). They responded "I do apologise if any confusion was caused by my previous tweet - we've had a few issues with residents reporting issues on a different road but the map selects their current location rather than where the flytip was". Hardly an apology!Last week I submitted more flytip reports and have received emails for three of these saying they have been cleared when they haven't. Giving details by Twitter, I have again been told the reference numbers I am providing are for different locations with Customer Services saying "I think there is an error occurring with your reports. Please can you delete the app and try downloading it to see if this will make a difference. ............ Please let us know if this works".I've uninstalled the app and reinstalled it again, but how will I know if this has made any difference as the records I'm looking at still have the correct information? On Thursday morning, 15th August, I sent another email to our councillors (plus Julian Bell and Mik Sabiers) but have yet to receive any response. Is anyone else encountering the same or similar issues?

Friars Gardens being used as dog toilet - it MUST stop!

As one of the residents who look after Friars Gardens, I am dismayed when we do some gardening/ watering at the amount of fresh dollops of dog mess we find each time. It's obvious by the quantity found that this isn't accidental, though a fair amount of owners are looking at their phones instead of their dogs and probably miss some by mistake. No this is deliberate and selfish breaking of the park bye-laws.Today at 4.30pm, whilst I was talking to a roofer in front of my house, I saw a slim young man with dark hair and pale white skin and a pink t-shirt fail to pick up a huge dollop of doggy mess from his squatting bull-dog. He ran off before I could confront him, but if anyone knows this dog-owner, please tell him that I have circulated his description to the residents around the green. And he should know that as some of us gardeners have the Ealing Council park ranger on speed dial, we will not hesitate to call the ranger up should the young man appear with his dog and no bag to pick-up. He rides his bike fast and will be up here in a jiffy.I don't think I have to remind people that Friars Gardens is a public open space and is used not just by those exercising their dogs, but by children and gardeners. Dog poo is toxic and very harmful to plants and it is dangerous to small children should they get it in their eyes - it can blind! And all of us gardeners are very tired now of the amount of times we get it on our shoes.Any suggestions about what can be done?

Seeking Advice on Ealing Council

After many years of repeatedly requesting information from Escan (Ealing Services for Children with additional needs) about my disabled son who does not live with me, I decided to once again visit Carmelita House, Ealing to get answers. This is of course after trying to get information by emails, telephone calls repeatedly by to no joy. I have Parental Responsibility and there are no court orders etc against me. A meeting took place with service manager Chris Jones who dishonestly claimed several things, some of which are: 1. Not knowing why I was not receiving information about my son, being excluded from reviews (A review took place in January which I had no knowledge about and he initially wished to focus only on a previous one in August) 2. Stated he had no knowledge of the contact details of ALLTHECARE despite having access to case file on a laptop with him. 3. Had no idea of the new Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) contact detail and I can obtain them from reception. 4. Claimed had no idea who Lorraine Cox the head of Ealing’s Data Protection was – I’m having to repeatedly do Subject Access Requests (SAR) through them to obtain information about my child. – he was challenged upon this response and I replied Lorraine Cox had informed me she had been liaising with you repeatedly to which he looks up his emails and manages , to find an email from 8th June even though there was been repeated contact between both of them. 5. Said the councillor Taylor remit covered of Children Services 6. Stated there is no restriction upon their system or any other system to have information barred from me. 7. States to me that they are unable to record the countless court orders the mother of my child is breaking which are in place for the safeguarding of by children and me as they are not party to them 8. Claimed he had a meeting at 2:00 PM at Perceval House. Chris Jones is also a person who discontinued a Stage 2 Complaints after spending many days at the offices in Carmelita House going through the list of concerns which naturally included why their was know information being forthcoming to me and why I was being excluded. No explanation has to date been provided. From the  multiple SARs I have put in Chris Jones only wishes to focus on about 5 of them and claims he will email me by Friday. After the meetings I decided to go to reception as Chris Jones stated to receptionist Husna first states to me that I’m able to get the phone number from the internet of CNWL. I reminded her that she was a receptionist and employed to handle enquiries as such and can look up the information. She responded that she doesn’t have any contact details handed down to her as CNWL has just came into being 1st July (same day) I asked is there anyone from CNWL here in the building, her subsequent response was no, but someone else who was behind her states yes there is both of us we are employed by them (including Husna) CNWL are the ones who look after my son’s Physiotherapy etc (no information from them either) A Physiotherapist, Caroline who had seen my son yesterday (unknown to me he had an appointment) did briefly speak to me but when I asked when he next appointment was asked who I exactly was despite myself fully identifying myself and stating I have PR etc.  She said she would need to find out something first. So she went to speak to Chris Jones who is still in the building at 2:15 PM.I’m given a print out of Patient Support Service phone number despite requesting to see someone from the CNWL as they work in the same Carmelita House. Following this a person called Jala Camara a manager in ESCAN comes down are demands me to leave the building because I don’t have an appointment, this is followed by threats to call the police. I stated I am doing exactly what I’ve been told to do by Chris Jones. Jala kept repeating his aggressive threats in front of other service users and children who were in the waiting room, this is while I’m seated. I’m in between on phone calls to and from Patient Support Service and the end off the phone calls to be honest I am in tears, exhausted yet again for being given the run around still.Chris Jones reappears and demands me to leave as I didn’t have an appointment, I stated you told me to go to reception to find out the information about CNWL, shockingly his response is  “No I didn’t!” which he repeatedly claimed. To which I responded “yes you did” as you can imagine.I left the building but continued my phone calls to Ealing council, on the outside. Police had arrived who first went inside and then came to speak to me who were surprised that I was being barred from information forthcoming from ESCAN and CWNL and how Chris Jones had failed to make statutory obligations in referral to other council departments. The Police Officer (PC Hunt) who I had no problem with to be honest and since it involves my son will be creating a MERLIN and said by Friday Chris Jones will be emailing me and the following week there will be a meeting. I did state to PC Hunt that Chris Jones had failed to make mention of the information from CNWL (who are based in the same building). What is one supposed to do here? Complaints do not get back, previous complaint get discontinued, repeatedly staff of Ealing council and CWNL being dishonest and now wish to involve the police for me asking for information about my son. I have once again requested a SAR of the CCTV, and made recordings on my mobile phone for my own safeguarding. The additional part here is that my disabled son had an appointment in the building but was not in the sign in/ out sheet which worries me further if there was a fire etc how could they account for him. Have left a message for councillor Yvonne Johnson actual remit covers children services and waiting for her call. Any other advice someone may give?

Beauty should be a consideration in the planning system, suggests poll.

Given that to work in Ealing Planning you are supposed to be "Qualified" (?!) you would think that aesthetics are taught and matter to the Planners and Planning Management. Not to "Two Houses, Two Jobs, Secret Council Loan, 'It's The Tory Cuts!'" though, as he continues trashing Acton with towering carbuncles and other monstrosities. Most respondents to a recent survey believe that the visual appeal of new developments matters – but 65 per cent do not think it is sufficiently taken into account through the planning system. These are the interim findings of a Civic Voice survey of its members. The findings will inform the organisation’s efforts to improve design quality of new homes and encourage sincere participation with communities on this issue. It will also, alongside workshops and round tables held in the past month, inform Civic Voice’s response to the Building Better, Building Beautiful Commission.Speaking at the APPG for Civic Societies on ‘Building Better, Building Beautiful’ yesterday (7 May), Sarah James, membership and policy officer at the Civic Voice, said: “We are having an honest conversation with people.”It is important that beauty is important to communities, she said, but beauty is subjective. However, she added, “we believe if we can get it right we can build the conservation areas of the future”."The challenge remains as to how we can move the conversation about building homes away from confrontation into one of collaboration. In doing so, can we rebuild public trust and confidence in the planning system?”Of the respondents (750), 86 per cent think the visual appeal of new development matters, while 71 per cent said that not enough homes are being built. Many of the respondents (81 per cent) don’t think they are listened to by developers and 73 per cent don’t think the local authority listens to them. The design, scale and context need to be given “serious” consideration in the decision-making process, with 72 per cent of members saying new developments don’t need to be the same as neighbouring buildings. The survey found:67 per cent considered that modern buildings can be beautiful.68 per cent thought if the aesthetic appeal or beauty of a development was given more focus it would receive more community support.42 per cent want training to understand the benefits of using design codes and style guides. It is important that civic members are equipped with up-to-date and appropriate skills, said James. Civic Voice will consider how it can help to raise the standard of the civic movement’s involvement in planning.“This will help to increase accountability and transparency within the civic movement but also ensure more gravitas in our consultation responses. We have to raise our standard and build confidence if we want to be taken seriously as a movement,” she said. Also at the APPG event, housing minister Kit Malthouse urged local communities to use the neighbourhood plan to take control of planning in their area. People are looking for a sense of harmony, he suggested, something communities could see as an ornament, something to be proud of. In a nod to James, he questioned whether we are building the conservation areas of the future.8 May 2019Laura Edgar, The PlannerSOURCE:   https://www.planningportal.co.uk/news/article/634/planning_news_-_16_may_2019?utm_source=PPQ+Newsletter&utm_campaign=385bfe96b6-Newsletter_18042019_HTML_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_734e0b63a9-385bfe96b6-7282665#three

Business Support for the NCS Challenge

I am Holly, Programme Manager for the NCS The Challenge programme in Ealing. We are due to have around 700 young people take part on our programme in South West London alone this summer across July and August. As we are finalising out set-up for the programme, we are still in need to find organisations to work with by the end of this month.  We are looking for local organisations for our young people to engage, volunteer or fundraise for.  I have outlined the follow information within this email: ·         Summary of Programme and impact of partnerships·         Partnerships  we are in need of Who are we? NCS is a government backed programme that helps young people build skills for work life and transition into adulthood. Our NCS programme is made up of a series of challenges where participants build and develop trust, responsibility, understanding and empathy for themselves, each other and their communities. Within South West London we deliver the programme in Ealing, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Kingston, Merton & Richmond. However, The Challenge delivers the programme nationally and across all boroughs in London. Partnerships we need: We cannot run our programme without opportunities like this. It allows us to offer young people a space for personal development and exposure to different platforms and closer connections to their community. I have attached documents that outline and detail the two different partnerships in more detail. ·         Enterprise Challenge Partnership: Up to 78 young people complete a social enterprise challenge you set for them in one afternoon.  This is a very exciting and innovative partnership, working with the intelligent and creative minds of young people to unlock new perspectives to the work you do. ·         Community Partnership: This is vital to connecting young people to their local community, issues and an understanding of a wider world. A team of 12-13 young people focus on planning a full day of volunteering for your organisation to support either the people you work with or the work that you do. Young people will be required to get to know your organisation & service users; Plan, facilitate and fundraise for the volunteer day. If you believe that this may be something that you can support with then it would be great to organise a time to speak about the opportunity further over the phone.
