Mending things

i would like to learn how to mend things - my toaster, my kettle, a light switch, a wonky door.does anyone know of any adult ed courses or private courses that i can join?i am bored of paying someone to do this for me badly!if you doknow a course  please email me on david.jenkins88@btinternet.comthank you

Don't forget to go online and look for the little videos you will find there.  You can download that lost instruction booklet.  You can also find spare parts for your things - vacuum cleaners for instance eg bags that you can't seem to find elsewhere because there are so many types of machines on the market. The people at the Household Waste & Recycling Centre told me that there are an awful lot of vacuum cleaners which are dumped because nobody has emptied the bag or cleaned the filter.  I've replaced the gasket on my oven - a complete doddle and I wish I had done it years earlier.  Replaced the oven light - more difficult simply because the cover was difficult for me to remove with my little hands.  Replaced the belt on my hoover....  and many more things.Take a look at espares which has videos and spart parts and there are other online firms.Remember that you have to be careful with electrical things and charities which sell these have them professionally tested before they can sell them.  My brother sorted out his toaster after I cleaned it for him and left him with a toaster that wasn't working.  I have a feeling it may have been because it has a safety feature which switches it off if you turn it upside down. You need to make sure you don't wreck those sort of safety features!

Another one:  https://therestartproject.org/I noticed a listing in March in Ruislip although it is a global movement as you will see.  Cathja in Brentford were hosting these at one time but have recently had to move part of their operation.  Brentford Recycling Action Group sometimes advertise the Cathja ones.There is also Petit Miracles in Shepherds Bush who run courses.Take a look at the mouldable glue Sugru which is useful for customising and mending all sorts of things.Let us know how you get on.

Isnt there something called Repair Cafe - I heard about it on the radio. Where they specialise in repairing things. I imagine you could learn skills there.Aha!https://repaircafe.org/en/
