There has just been a change of leadership in Ealing Council. If the promises are true, Acton Recycling Centre can now stay open! The new Ealing council leader, Peter Mason has made some really positive statements, including saying that he is keen to ensure that "local people have control over change in their neighborhoods"What a fantastic improvement this would be. His predecessor, Julian Bell had simply announced that with zero consultation he would be closing our recycling centre in Acton. Unbelievably, saying this was so simple as people could just drive to Brent or Greenford recycling centres instead, a ten mile round trip - promoting increased road use and making recycling harder, whilst at the same time wanting to spend hundred of millions on building work and new town hall offices. So, with optimism and hope, will we see Peter Mason will stick to his promise? Can we keep the local Acton recycling centre open and look forward to some real consultation with the local community before other significant changes in services are made?
