Acton Main Line roundabout

Just a warning, be very careful if you're coming from Horn Lane towards the A40 and doing a right at the roundabout onto Friary Road. I do this daily and most days nearly have a crash when people ignore the "give way to the right" rule and fly straight over the roundabout as I'm turning. Also, coming out of Friary Road to go onto the roundabout you have to pull over the lines to be able to see around the corner. Another genius design by Ealing Council planners 🙄

I commend the Council for this design. Traffic has flowed much better with less standing traffic up Horn Lane since the removal of the lights, despite the cycle lane works at the A40. The two pedestrian crossings are well sited and the warning beacons are fully visible. I would imagine most traffic using this route is local or regular so drivers and pedestrians will get used to it soon. It will be interesting to see how the flow of Crossrail users (when?) interacts with the crossings, the crossings might have to upgraded to Pelican (light operated) to keep the traffic flowing. Agreed some care is needed exiting from Friary Rd, but just that, CARE.On balance the pollution from standing traffic will be much reduced, so in my view a positive move.Looking forward to the flower beds being planted too!!

If they have all stopped you could trust that they are all sensible unselfish drivers who will "proceed with caution" which is how it should be.

Re give way to the right.......if you at a roundabout and at each junction there is a car wanting to go round the roundabout, which means each of you has a car to their right, who should go first?  I've had this a few times and it's like we are all waiting for someone to move and then we all move together!!!!

Ha ha, I do too at this roundabout now, saves getting annoyed or smashed into.

Definitely seems to have improved flow at that junction so well done to TfL in this case. Agree though that some people simply don't know the rules when it comes to roundabouts - I just assume that a person coming straight across won't give way to me when I'm turning right.

There is certainly a lot of poor behaviour at mini roundabouts. Even those of us who passed our driving tests before they existed have no excuse for not employing some common sense.

Haha. The only slight problem with that is the risk of those turning left running over pedestrians because there's no zebra crossing. As a pedestrian it's difficult to see any cars turning left before you step onto the road. Not sure why they didn't put a zebra there too. There must be a reason for it. Maybe it would clog up the roundabout too much?

On the whole I think it's an improvement especially when turning Left around Frank's cafe and having to slam the breaks as vehicles couldn't pass due to the cafe customers parked in the disabled bay and narrowing the useable road. I always admired Aussie Movers for being an equal opportunity employer hiring disabled removers. I assume this is why they were always parked in the disabled bays?

All in all I don't have a problem with it.  I now expect people to barrel straight over it without any notice of me turning right, so I'm sorted. Just thought I'd let everybody else know there's a lot of people who just don't understand how roundabouts work.

Surely it depends on which way you are going on how well roundabouts work for you?  I don't know that roundabout but I remember the one outside Acton tube being a pain with drivers just driving straight across it when they weren't turning without slowing or any anticipation or consideration let alone giving way to cars on their right already on the roundabout.

Funny but others I talk to and myself think that putting a roundabout there has improved the flow of traffic greatly in that area.Not all change is for the worse.Carl
