Stirling Road recycling site

Be warned that it is closed this week. The gates are open but the unpleasant staff on duty won't allow entry claiming there is a new online registration and prebooking system  ..... that starts on 17 August. Today's date, and I'll check again, is 13 August. Good luck to LBE residents without online access.

Maybe people book and don't turn up.I notice Townmead has a facility to change bookings.  I'm not sure that the others do.https://book.westlondonwaste.gov.uk/

My husband went last week - having booked rather crossly.He said there wasn't a soul there actually dumping anything, which quite surprised him.Another trip tomorrow. Maybe Sundays are more popular.

@ Julie Kaiser You don't say what you are trying to recycle.  There may be other recycling sites that you can use.You can check out these neighbourhood recycling sites:https://www.ealing.gov.uk/directory/29/neighbourhood_recycling_sitesThe larger supermarkets also often have recycling banks.And you can also freecycle with www.trashnothing.com where you list whatever it is that you no longer want and whoever wants it has to contact you and collect.Why do you think that everything will go to landfill if you don't recycle?

I too had a speedy booked slot at Stirling Road with no queue and immediate access to an unloading bay. With so few users, I wonder where all the rubbish is going if it isn't coming here.

They don’t seem to realise that some people who wish to recycle don’t have a car or motorcycle or bicycle.  I used to take small amounts of stuff there quite regularly on foot.  If I accumulate much more at home I’ll have to put it out with the refuse and it will go to landfill.  I really can’t understand why I’m a greater risk than someone driving in and getting out of their car.  I’m quite happy to take my place in a queue. Is there a logic to the no pedestrian rule that I’ve  missed? Why can’t I book a slot just like wheel-owning residents? If anyone knows the answers please enlighten me!

Last week I too used the booking system. I was the only car when I arrived .  I had not taken my reference no. with me  but my name was on their list. so after a bit of a debate I was allowed in. Just one other car there. . Chappie sitting in a chair kindly indicated as to what went where. . Other than , wood, card,  bottles,  compost stuff and electricals,  most stuff now goes into landfill.  In and out in 12 minutes.  Fastest visit ever for  me  !

Does this mean you can only use tips in your borough? I frequently used to go to the Park Royal tip as it takes far more items including mattresses and tyres. Also the containers being at ground level are easier to access without climbing the steps. You can park your can in front of the tip you need. Greenford is really far, it can take 45 minutes to get there and the general waste bit  has a really high wall which I struggle to get items over as a shortie. On one occasion I fashioned myself steps out of paint cans so I could reach over the wall much to the staffs amusement.

Saw an old Jack Dee Live at the Apollo last night and wondered when he mentioned living in Hammersmith and going to the'tip' and being surreptitiously watched taking his bike out of the car boot and then taking everything else out and putting his bike back in which 'tip' it was.Nowadays of course an H&F resident should be using their own borough's Reuse & Recycling Centre.

Only cars, motorcyclist and cyclist are permitted, pedestrian entries are strictly prohibited. We used the new online booking system yesterday, and there was no queue at all. A huge improvement on the previous system, with its hour-long wait (though the staff have been courteous throughout, in my experience).

This is yet another example of LBE's hypocrisy. Put in controls  -  LTNs to discourage driving but then stop people walking and cycling to recycling centres. Along with encouraging out of borough people to drive and park close to stations by freeing up parking spaces, allowing an extra 200 plus concrete mixers and lorries to drive down residential road with three schools and then planning station access with no disabled access.

I think that is just to do with social distancing and safety.  They don't want lots of people in there.  I used often to go in the exit to dispose of eco light bulbs and used cooking oil.

I assume the restriction on people walking into the site is to maintain safe distancing by limiting the number of people walking up and down to the containers to three, ie the number of cars allowed to unload at any one time.

Highlight copy and paste to get to the info on LBE's Reuse & Recycling Centres.  Then check out your nearest neighbourhood recycling banks.https://www.ealing.gov.uk/info/201171/recycling_services/292/re-use_and_recycling_centres_and_sitesOtherwise you could find yourself turned away.BTW Check out LBE's kerbside collection.  In Ealing clothing bagged preferably in see-through or possibly white plastic bag so that the collectors recognise it for what it is can go either in your green recycling box or on top of your blue wheelie bin.  Clothing does not need to be good enough to be worn; shoes should be tied together in pairs.  Other recycling as per the list should be loose in your wheelie bin or green box.Only use black sacks for your residual waste - ie the waste you can't recycle kerbside.You are supposed to be able to go by cycle to the Reuse & Recycling Centre - but do they have anywhere to lock your bike?  If you have a problem make sure you give feedback.

V V strange rule that "Walk ins" can't deposit rubbish, doesn't make sense to me.Hopefully there's a valid reason, anyone know what it is?

I have seen car drivers accepting to take in a bag of rubbish from a cyclist. I wouls have agreed to take it had another not done so.

Kindness, helpfulness, consideration, friendliness, good sense ... if shown by these people and others in the public sector (and anywhere else!) are repaid in the same way by the people they serve.It has been confirmed by LBE that pedestrians are not allowed to use the facility.

I cycled there with an broken kettle. I could have almost reached the place where the electrical equipment is kept from the exit gate by stretching my arm. They would not let me.I was a not happy. In the past the staff have been helpful when arriving by car.

Just a heads up for anyone who doesn't have a car, you can't go there on foot. Went a couple of weeks ago with a bag of clothes, not good enough for charity shop, and was told no foot entry. It was suggested I go along the cars asking if they would take it in for me but I didn't think that was fair to ask in the current climate.

Midday today (Sunday) there was hardly any queue, and earlier in the week no queue at all outside the site. I've never expected the staff there to help me dump my rubbish, for if they did that for everyone, they'd be exhausted by the end of the day.

I made two trips last week and had to wait, I found the stewards managing the queue outside the dump very polite and helpful. The guys on the inside were their usual selfs pointing at skips from the comforts of their chairs useless but not rude. The whole trip door to door was 70 minutes with about 40 minutes of queuing.

'On our last trip we sat in the car for well over an hour'Which is the whole point of the booking system. If you turn up at the right time for your slot, there should be little or no waiting.

How ridiculous to have an online booking system with no thought for residents with no internet access.So it seems if cars arrive 10 minutes late they will be turned away! What happens if people are having to queue to enter the Stirling Road site? On our last trip we sat in the car for well over an hour waiting to dump a few items. We even encountered people trying to queue jump!Surely this is a recipe for disaster, our streets will be eve more of a dumping ground in future!
