Shopping at Lidl at the Moment

What's the store in the Oaks like at the moment in terms of stocks and queues?

Mezelko and the polish shops for bread, flour. Oats and tinned good, Pound plus on the high street apparently has lots of toilet paper left. Support Acton local businesses.

From personal experience there have been shocking scenes of chaos, panic, unease and 'ransacking' in a W3 Tesco (the Vale) and Sainsburys (W4). Earlier today in M & S, CHR, it was almost normal service. There were very few empty shelves and it was not rammed.Here's hoping that the London shopping public comes to its senses very soon. This crisis is going to last a while longer.

Now is the best time as ever to support smaller shops. The 2 newsagents in West Acton were selling 4 pack toilet rolls for £2.49, although placed at the very top shelf, you wouldn't notice it unless you looked around the shop in detail. They had plenty of stock which the big supermarkets were run out of. I drove around Acton and Chiswick and noticed the newsagents were stocking up with more essentials, unpacking goods from their personal cars.

Oh dear! Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. In my defence the lack of queues at Hakikat was mentioned in the article so I don't think I am entirely to blame.

Thanks for the replies. All very helpful as was the article in this week's Acton newsletter which gave a very useful rundown of the situation.The government seems to be ignoring a much bigger potential risk of spreading infection that is supermarkets and the big chains are contributing to this risk by not managing things properly by rationing certain products and limiting access to the store.If more people die of this it will be both tragedy and farce. As is becoming increasingly clear these products are generally available with no problem in smaller shops around the area and now there is an extra reason to support an independent trader - it might save lives. As the goods are available it must be that some people are going to the big supermarkets because they think it will be cheaper. The prices at Hakikat Food Centre on the High Street are pretty much the same if not better than the supermarket and I got more or less everything I need there yesterday.

I have arranged to get a weekly box of veg from Basil and Toms. It's absolutely crazy in Morrisons at the moment. People are being so selfish and stupid.

Be great to use this forum to inform people which small shops are still carrying stocks- would hate to see my favourite shops on church field road close because of this.

The Halal fruit & veg place opposite the Old Town Hall has great heaps of both. Steady stream of customers this morning but no real queues.

Support local stores as much as you can- small businesses need your money in these uncertain times. Basil and Toms for fruit and veg, the English butcher for meat, etc....stop with the big superstores they make enough money. please, please support these businesses now more than ever as we don’t know what the future holds.

Try the smaller shops.  I know we automatically think supermarket but maybe a change of shopping habits will work better.

Mark, I was in there this morning, and the queues were to the back of the store. The fridges were empty, the toilet roll, tissues, etc shelf was empty - so gave up.  Went to Morrisons - their chicken was completely gone,no eggs, no tinned foods, no toilet roll, etc.  Apparently, you have to get there for 7am to have a chance to buy anything, as by 8am - all gone. Tried the Sainsburys - nothing there either. Queues are the least of your problems - it's the complete lack of anything to actually buy.
