Old Library - latest news

As you will have seen in the front page the Acton Arts project submitted a bid to purchase a 25 year lease on the Old Library on the High St. Every single local Councillor has endorsed the bid, except those who may be involved with the decision. Along with 5000 & counting local supporters. LBE make the decision 15th October. Fingers crossed. www.actonartsproject.com

The really exciting news is that the planning application has now been submitted and we would love you to take a look at the application. I managed Brouncker Rd but ran out of flyers after that. I went back to Citydeal last Saturday, but they informed me there were no more leaflets left. If there's another stash somewhere, I'm happy to do another round and cover some more streets this weekend. :)

The banners will go up this weekend (weather permitting). Thanks to the volunteer from this forum. He doesnt want his name in lights We could still use some volunteers to drop fliers on the north side of Noel Road, and Saxon Drive. They are long roads so even a few fliers would help. Yes there are leaflets left. You are doing a great job. Thanks very much everyone who is helping with the fliers.6 banners advertising the public meeting on 7th November will be delivered on Friday. They need to go up where people who dont use local social media can see the. Do we have any volunteers on here who could do that. Easiest with two people.

Really Exciting News but there is still lots to do and its now up to us to make this happen.We have just submitted  an application to the mayor's Good Growth Fund to pay for half the costs of the capital works needed. Maire, is there anywhere online we can view Cabinet's recommendation of the project?Like many I'm still dismayed this whole thing has gone out for bidding, given the previous fiasco. Any Council with a shred of integrity would not only have supported this exclusively, but also have bunged in a few quid to get it off to a flying start.

As we await the council decision it is really important to show our financial support for a cinema and arts centre returning to Acton High Street. It is important to pledge now, both to secure future match funding and to underline the strength of community feeling. This is our building given to us by a benefactor, not a property to be hawked off by the council for profit. At a time of rising concern about youth crime etc, what better way to do what we can, than to introduce a new centre of activity and entertainment to the heart of the borough. Excellent news that Councillor from the four wards connected to Acton has written to the Director of Regeneration in support of the community bid. The only exceptions are those who might have to choose the winning bid or decide on Planning Applications. In advance of the decision Acton Arts thank these Councillors for their support.

We know of three because we had some discussion with them along the way. Another cinema but one run by a property developer, a supplementary school, and a hostel or small hotel. The Officer now running the disposal of the building is very helpful, but the final decision is to be made by Cabinet.

Thank you Roscoe. The team is larger than you would think. Acton Arts has seven Directors, but about another 30 locals have given their time and skills. It's truly a community bid.
