Clear recycling bags.

Just wondering if any other flats above shops are waiting out on receiving more of the clear recycling bags we are meant to use? I have chased twice and still no sign a month later. Last I heard they were being delivered across the borough and we should have by 2 weeks, and if not call again and they can order.. Which having already requested is a 2 week wait...Makes me sad to think of our recycling going to landfill due to being unclear for collection teams.

I believe they are collected separately.  It is true though that many of us do not have room for an enormous wheelie bin.Some have managed to stay with the green boxes.  Remember you do not have to put it out every fortnight if you only have a little and can use other recycling sites if you have too much.  Also worthwhile making friends with someone who doesn't use their blue bin much so that you have a chance to add your recycling - just ask first!

Please do not even consider swapping your bin for bags as they are exactly the kind of plastic we need to avoid. Anything that is single use is seriously bad for the environment while a proper bin can be used for 30 years+ if it is treated well. How many bags would you use over the next 30 years, keeping in mind you would not fill the bags completly because you want to tie them up? Just go the extra mile - or rather just yards - to put out your recycling. Things are no longer about convenience for the individual - we all need to change our habits so that our chidren and grandchildren can still have a decent life.

I always have to phone and pester them multiple times.  Last time they told me they will accept ordinary clear sacks.  Sainsbury’s sell them.

Is this an alternative to having a huge recycling bin? I would love clear bags instead

There is supposed to be a change in collection coming - so it could be something to do with that.  However since it is counter productive to put people off recycling when trying to encourage them you would think that they would inform people so as to keep them onside.  In every email I've received from Mik Sabiers he has reiterated the importance of recycling.Do speak to your neighbours to see what their situation is together with your local Councillors.  Also Mik Sabiers whose portfolio it is.  They just may not know about the problem!http://www.chiswickw4.com/default.asp?section=community&link=http://neighbournet.com/server/common/ldrsearecycling002.htmsabiersm@ealing.gov.ukWell done for minimising the volume of your recycling.  You wouldn't believe the number of people who don't!

Thanks Phillipa. Yes I may try going to our councillor but was trying to find if it's a missed street thing (there are no proper clear recycling sacks going out from along our stretch of the road for some time) or wider.We do collapse, crush and rinse already so certain that's not why we have run out.

How about contacting your Councillors?  And get to know your neighbours so that you can share when and if there is a problem.Where are your nearest street recycling banks?  Are there any at a supermarket that you visit?  Or that you could pass by on your way to work or for a walk in the park etc - just so that you can reduce the amount that you have.Also make sure that you have squashed any plastic bottles, cartons and cans and flattened any boxes to reduce the volume. Unfortunately plastic tubs etc all seem to be different shapes and sizes and take up a lot of space but sometimes you can reduce by buying naked fruit and veg and avoiding plastic containers.https://www.ealing.gov.uk/directory/29/neighbourhood_recycling_sitesIt is always a good idea to do a recce before you carry masses of stuff to it!
