Acton Unframed

Thanks to a donation of £10K from Acton Central Ward Forum we have reached our crowdfunding target for Acton Unframed - a project to bring world class street art to Acton.This is the best news -  to have such strong support from the local community, local businesses, Acton BID, Ealing Council, The Mayor of London and all our local councillors is just brilliant!Thank you to everyone who helping us achieve this and to West London Art Factory for heading up the project!More announcements and a plan of action to follow!! But for now Jewel and I will be letting it sink in and celebrating tonight at the Rocket between 6-9pm - please join us if you are around. Well done Acton for supporting this! Kal x

We’re taking stock and waiting on wall permissions to come through before we decide on next steps. We have some preferred spots but until they are confirmed we can’t say. Updates will be made on the Churchfieldrdw3  Instagram, Fb and twitter pages as well as the actonunframed.com website. I can tell you - (you are hearing it here first!) that the next commission will be an elaborate metal sculpture by Matt Small of local hero Jamal Edwards ;-)

If you’re around in Acton today,  Fin is finishing his amazing mural on the corner of Myrtle Road and Churchfield road right now. There was quite a crowd gathering when I left (take an umbrella or a good hat - the sun is very intense). It’s getting everyone talking on the street. So exciting!

just looking on google maps and made a few more spots, there is an old beige building on the corner of the market near morrisons and horn lane which is ripe for a big art work, opposite the Oaks on the high street is a tall grey wall with no windows next door to the money shop on the corner of high street and oldham terrace- perfect for a tall mural, and it would also be nice to get something by Acton town station as a nice welcome- as the walk from there to the high street is pretty grim at the moment.

There is a huge wall on the side of the Arch climbing centre- corner of 20-24 High street and Alfred Road. This is crying out for something on it, Its the last huge wall you see before the Acton bridge heading from high street to Shepherds Bush, and since the building is non residential i'd imagine permission from the landlord shouldn't be too tricky. It would make sense to 'ground' Acton by having art on entry and exit of High street.

Hi Lee, we are working on getting more walls - we’re keen to get one in the market square and working on permissions with landlords. We have a couple more in mind and open to suggestions - ideally we’d like to see landlords come forward and work with us - it’s the trickiest part. Only once  we have a confirmed wall we can commission the artists. There will be 5 (maybe 6 as we are overfunding and just had £1k confirmed from L&Q). saw the start of the first image on churchfield road last night, looking at other projects that Fin Dac has completed on buildings across the world on his FB page i think this is going to be absolutely stunning and will really put acton on the map. Can't wait to see the finished results! Does anyone know which other buildings in Acton will be used? i believe there are 5 in total. Will it be the same artist for all of them?

Spot on Peter. There's so much interesting historical past in Acton,  contemporary is good but I hope there is at least a nod to its past. There's a mural on the wall by South Acton overground that does just that.

Excellent, well done all!My suggestion would be to approach The Oaks people and ask if you can do something on their terribly bland walls inside the new shopping centre. It's a perfect blank canvas for art.

Well done for getting the funding!Agree with Peter that the art should reflect the diverse community, with perhaps a nod to Acton's past as soap sud island -with the large number of laundries that used to operate in South Acton.

Please don't cover the place in graffiti, but represent with respect the rich history of Acton and its communities, from automobile and electrical manufacturing to food production, not forgetting pop music, the railways and buses - together with its Polish, Japanese and Somali people - and all the rest.
