Fishers Lane Closure an opportunity for Acton

There's an interesting discussion on the Chiswick forum about the impact that closing Fishers Lane will have on shopping habits. The move will essentially create a border between the North part of Chiswick and Chiswick High Road which will mean for many it will be much easier to get to Acton. This surge of new potential customers could create an extra impetus to the regeneration of the High Street particularly with a cinema coming too. It's a shame that Marks and Spencer passed up the opportunity to move into the Oaks but maybe they should have a rethink if the residents of Bedford Park are going to be coming this way.

I find it hard to believe that this is part of a cunning plan by the council. Do they really have any incentive to take measures to increase the prosperity of town centres in the borough given the way the business rates system works?

As the originator of the discussion on Chiswick I'm gratified to see you think it generated an interesting exchange. Basically my view is that I think that London Borough of Hounslow have committed an act of economic self harm by shutting Turnham Green Terrace. Maybe Ealing recognised the opportunity that was being presented to them in closing Fishers Lane or maybe they don't think that strategically. Whichever, the impact that it will have on the geography of the area is probably being underestimated.
