STOPPING the musak at Acton Pools - Constructive Update
I met Area Manager for Everyone Active Ealing, Phil Edwards at the Acton Centre this morning for about 40 minutes. It was a sensible exchange of views and covered a lot of ground. The key points are that I said I appreciated that he needed to attract more swimmers and recognised that that was his motivation to introduce music poolside. He described swimming there at present as as a sterile experience. He conceded he had not actually swum there. I said he should so that he actually knows what it feels like. He and I agreed that as a proposal, this introduction of music was based more on his conviction rather than any hard evidence that swimmers might appreciate it. He let me know that they have just finished drafting a questionnaire which will be emailed to all Everyone Active Users and which will, among a great many other things, ask directly if people would like music or not. I welcomed this development. As a gesture of goodwill, he agreed to instruct the Centre Manager not to re-introduce music until the results of that questionnaire have been analysed. We agreed we would communicate again, once that process was complete. So peace and quite until then, and when that email comes...
