Boiler Service and repairs

Due to various reasons we have cancelled our contract with British Gas for boiler service and repairs.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  I suspect even paying an engineer on an ad-hoc basis for repairs would work out cheaper than what we were paying.

Gas Works Acton are great. We call them as and when we need them, and  always get a good, professional service. During Covid they were very extremely professional. Local is always best I think. Local recommendations speak volumes.

Any long established and truly local firm should be OK because they have a reputation to protect on their patch.  TrustPilot & similar can be of course used to help ascertain the quality of work & pricing.I have used Heywood, because they passed my "Test". I had a CH problem a few years back and knew exactly what the problem was, a VERY simple fix, but one which I felt more comfortable getting a professional in. Afroz from Heywood confirmed exactly what it was, no BS to extend the job and charge unnecessarily, so I have used them ever since.
