A group of volunteers has been hard at work to improve green spaces across Ealing borough and they would like you to join them.

Set up in 2020, the Ealing Parks Foundation is an independent charity which also aims to encourage access, and promote active citizenship.

Its current project is to carry out improvements in South Ealing Cemetery to make it more welcoming to visitors, while preserving the dignity of the space. This 21-acre site has become overgrown in recent years and the Grade II Listed chapels have fallen into disrepair.

The foundation has developed short, medium, and long term proposals for the site, including gaining a ‘Green Flag’, encouraging a Friends Group and bringing the chapels back into use. It wants to hear from local groups and individuals and are running a survey to gather views on the project.

It is holding a ‘hands on’ event this Sunday 9 March from 10am to 12pm in collaboration with GoodGym. It will be laying recycled woodchip from Christmas trees on the side paths in the Old Cemetery to improve safety and overall appearance in time for the bluebell display in April. This is a volunteer event and the charity would love to see some new faces. There is no need for gardening experience, just a desire to improve the cemetery. It will also be doing a short walk around the old cemetery showcasing the inside of the chapels, some interesting memorials, the newly set up bird boxes and beautiful spring bulbs.

Ealing Parks Foundation also holds regular ‘hands on’ mid-week sessions on Tuesdays from 10:30am to 12:30pm and the next one is on 23 March, and it is developing a full programme of events for the year ahead.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.
