Young People from Ealing Receive Jack Petchey Awards

Two ceremonies took place in Greenford this month with young people from the area receiving achievement awards from the Jack Petchey Foundation

50 recipients from the Air Cadets Middlesex Wing, including many from Ealing, were presented with an award at a live event at the Assembly Hall.

Winners aged 11-25 were being recognised for their contributions to their unit and received medallions and framed certificates from the Foundation along with a £300 grant for them to spend to benefit their unit.

In addition, 6 adults were awarded Leader Awards for demonstrating outstanding ability to motivate young people. They each received a medallion and a framed certificate.

14-year-old Vinay Meisuria, attends 14F Squadron in Northolt and was given an award for being a great team player. Over the last year Vinay has continued to work hard with his Duke of Edinburgh team by assisting them in completing their initial expedition training, organising local litter picks and teaching younger cadets how to pack for camping and cooking expeditions. He has also shown great qualities on Squadron by taking the lead with assisting new recruits.

Vinay decided to spend his £300 Jack Petchey Achievement Award Grant on Squadron Band equipment, including a hard case HN24B Bass Drum Case and a hard case 16" Floor Tom Case.

On another evening at the same venue 124 awards were handed out to young people from schools and colleges in Ealing with four adults also getting Leader Awards.

In addition, 4 adults were awarded Leader Awards for demonstrating outstanding ability to motivate young people. They each received a medallion and a framed certificate.

Heli Gurjar, 14, who attends The Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls, won the Jack Petchey Achievement Award for her dedication and hard work. Heli has consistently taken on roles such as volunteering in the library and helping at career events. She is described as a true asset to the STEM Club. Heli maintains her approachable, bubbly and infectious smiles wherever she goes, and never fails to encourage her peers, while also being incredibly proactive herself.

Heli decided to spend her £300 Jack Petchey Achievement Award Grant on equipment for the STEM club, including shield badges, tined paper, colouring pens and cotton string.

15-year-old Cole Driver, who attends Springhallow School was awarded for his exceptional talents and admirable qualities. Known for his artistic skills, he has consistently demonstrated creativity and hard work in all his endeavours. His leadership qualities shine through in group activities, where he guides his peers with patience and kindness. His peers recognise his kind nature, making him a deserving recipient of this award.

Cole decided to spend his £300 Jack Petchey Achievement Award Grant on scooters for the school.

Cllr Anthony Kelly, Deputy Mayor of Ealing, who handed out awards on the night, said, “A wonderful event recognising the achievements of our young people in Ealing. It was good to meet students, performers and sportsman from the borough. Thanks Jack Petchey Foundation for coming to Greenford.”

Also in attendance was Cllr Tariq Mahmood, who added “Very moving and inspiring. Jack Petchey Foundation is really making a good contribution.”

Councillor Josh Blacker, Cabinet Member, who also attended, said, “Ealing is full of amazing young people who deserve recognition. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to the Jack Petchey Foundation for celebrating them!”

The Jack Petchey Foundation has invested over £1m in Ealing since funding started.
