The NHS team that was there to assist on the day
April 1, 2026
Ealing’s Black communities came together in strength last week for the launch of a major new health initiative designed to improve wellbeing and tackle long-standing health inequalities in the borough.
The event, held on 26 March at the West Acton Community Centre and titled Black Ealing – Healthy & Well, drew a large turnout of residents, community groups, health professionals and local partners, marking the beginning of a two-year programme focused on supporting Black communities to take greater control of their health.
The launch was delivered in partnership with West London NHS Trust, the NHS North West London Integrated Care Board, Ealing Council and Ealing & Hounslow Community and Voluntary Service, and created a lively, welcoming space where people could access support, meet local organisations and help shape the direction of the initiative. It builds on the Ealing Roots & Wings programme, which was developed in response to recommendations from the Ealing Race Equality Commission, and represents a significant step in the borough’s efforts to address the health disparities that disproportionately affect Black residents.
Throughout the day, attendees were offered free health checks, including blood pressure and blood sugar testing, helping to raise awareness of conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. Alongside the clinical support, the event celebrated culture, wellbeing and local enterprise. The Millan Market showcased natural and holistic health products such as shea butter and essential oils, while local food and drink businesses, including EJ Natural Juices and Dee’s Roti, helped create a warm and community-centred atmosphere. Community organisations such as the United Anglo Caribbean Society were also present, offering residents opportunities to connect with services and support networks.
A central feature of the launch was the chance for attendees to vote for the official logo that will represent the initiative over the next two years, placing community voice at the heart of the programme from the outset. The event also provided space for open conversations about health, wellbeing and the barriers Black communities continue to face, reinforcing the importance of culturally relevant engagement and community-led solutions.
The initiative will now move into a two-year programme of events, workshops and outreach across Ealing, aimed at encouraging more people to check and understand their health, improving awareness of available services, creating safe spaces for discussions about wellbeing and strengthening relationships between communities and health providers. Organisers say future events will build on the momentum of the launch to ensure more residents are reached and supported.
The success of the event also highlighted the strength of partnership working in the borough, bringing together statutory bodies, voluntary organisations, local businesses and residents. The programme is supported by Communicate Inclusively, which has led on community engagement and communications to ensure the campaign resonates with local people.
Organisers hope the strong turnout and enthusiastic participation at the launch will encourage even greater involvement in the months ahead and help drive long-term improvements in health outcomes for Black communities across Ealing.
