Ealing Voices, one of West London’s longest-standing community choirs, invites audiences to its festive concert A Christmas Prelude: Music for Advent on Sunday 30 November at St Barnabas Church. The programme features a rich blend of seasonal classics, including Christmas carols, excerpts from Handel’s Messiah, Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit, and Corelli’s Christmas Concerto.
Tickets are available via ticketsource.co.uk/ealing-voices.
Founded in 1981 by Chris Richardson at St Matthew’s Church, the choir was originally known as Ealing Common Choir before rebranding as Ealing Voices. Now under the musical direction of Michael Veazey, the group continues to thrive as a welcoming, un-auditioned choir.
Ealing Voices typically performs three concerts per year, marking the end of each term with a carefully curated programme. While Advent and Easter concerts lean toward sacred and classical works, summer performances often include lighter fare—from musicals to contemporary choral arrangements.
The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings and welcomes new singers with some choral experience, especially tenors. Their ethos is rooted in community, accessibility, and musical excellence.
The Advent concert promises a reflective and uplifting evening, combining well-known carols with baroque masterpieces. Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit—a midnight mass based on French noël melodies—and Corelli’s Christmas Concerto offer a festive glimpse into 17th-century musical traditions, while selections from Messiah bring grandeur and familiarity.
St Barnabas Church on Pitshanger Lane, (W5 1QG), is a spacious and acoustically rich venue, provides an ideal setting for this seasonal celebration. The concert is expected to draw a mix of local residents, music lovers, and longtime supporters of the choir.
