London Fire Brigade is warning residents in the vicinity of Bridge Road in Southall to keep doors and windows closed following a fire which has been categorised as a major incident.

Twenty-five fire engines and around 150 firefighters are responding to the blaze in a two storey structure consisting of a warehouse and retail space. Around three-quarters of the structure was alight this Tuesday morning (25 November). Three of the Brigade turntable ladders have been deployed to scene, allowing crews to fight the fire from height.

A nearby school and block of flats were evacuated as a safety precaution.

“A major incident has been declared as firefighters tackle the fire on Bridge Street, Southall,” LFB’s assistant commissioner, Pat Goulbourne, said.

“This decision has been taken due to the suspected presence of fireworks and cylinders being stored within the structure.”

Traffic in the area was also impacted as crews responded.

The Brigade's Control Officers have taken 60 calls reporting the fire, with the first received at 8.55an. Crews from Southall, Heston, Ealing and surrounding fire stations have been sent to the scene.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
