Despite the efforts of firefighters who entered a burning building to save him, a man has died following a house fire in Southall.

London Fire Brigade was called to the scene on Queens Road at 22:20pm last Friday with three fire engines and around 15 firefighters from Southall, Hayes and Ealing fire stations in attendance.

Crew members wearing breathing apparatus rescued a man from a first-floor bedroom via an internal staircase. He was treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews, but was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire was under control before midnight by which time part of the first floor of the end-of-terrace house was damaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation both by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service indicating that arson might be being considered as a possible cause.
