Delta Variant Appears To Be Taking Hold in Parts of Acton
Pockets of infection occurring in some neighbourhoods
Local NHS Trust recently held mass vaccination event at Twickenham stadium
There have been 50 new cases of Covid-19 reported in the Acton area in the most recent week for which figures are available.
New infections appear concentrated in the Acton Central and East Acton neighbourhoods where over half of the positive tests made in the week to 11 June have occurred.
It is believed that the upsurge in these areas is due to the Delta variant which is becoming the dominant strain in the UK and is more transmissible than even the Kent variant which caused the second wave of the virus at the end of last year.
Acton Central has the highest infection rate with 136.4 cases per 100,000 population followed by East Acton with 124.0.
Some areas including the vicinity of Noel Road & Lunton Road have seen infection rates decline.
The borough of Ealing has an infection rate of 74. Having been consistently among the worst affected boroughs the rate has fallen back towards the London average.
The data from Public Health England is for areas known as Middle Layer Super Output Areas.

Ealing Council says that over 311,974 jabs – first or second – have been administered so far in the borough in total and over 50,000 since surge testing and vaccinations were announced in the borough because of an increase in the Delta variant from 24 May.
Residents were asked to take part in extra testing and get their vaccine to help stop the spread of this more transmissible variant and to avoid the need for further lockdown restrictions.
Many local residents have participated, with 24,407 first doses and 23,527 second doses of the jab being administered at local vaccines sites, pharmacies, and pop-up vaccination centres including a mass vaccination event held at Twickenham stadium organised by the local NHS Trust.
Council leader Peter Mason said, “I had my vaccine last week and, since then, I’ve felt a lot safer. I know from having it I am less likely to be affected by COVID-19, but also that I am helping to protect those most vulnerable to the virus.
“I have been amazed at the massive turnout of residents to get tested and to get vaccinated. Please continue to get yours done and encourage your loved ones to do the same.”
If you are 21 years of age or above you can walk-up to CP House in Ealing to get your first vaccination, but booking an appointment is advised to guarantee the jab. Find out if you are eligible and book now.
There will also be an opportunity to get a vaccine at a pop-up vaccination centre at The Dominion Centre in Southall on Saturday, 19 June between 9am-6pm.
Future pop-up vaccination centres are currently being arranged with the NHS, and more information on these will be announced soon.
Acton residents who are displaying symptoms should isolate immediately and get a PCR test at the Michael Flanders Centre between 8am–8pm.
Everyone Active Acton offers enhanced testing for residents that are not displaying symptoms and those that want a rapid test that gives results within 30 minutes will be able to get one from the centre after they have completed their PCR test – open between 9am–4pm.
Up to 15 June 4,832,748 people in London had received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 3,087,991 had received two doses.
The total number of COVID-19 cases identified in London is 740,972 as at 15 June, this compares to 4,001,803 cases for England as a whole
In the week to 11 June, 6,186 cases were identified in London, a rate of 69 cases per 100,000 population. This compares with 4,169 cases and a rate of 46 for the previous week. In the same period, 40,925 cases were identified in England as a whole, a rate of 73 cases per 100,000 population. This compares with 26,885 cases and a rate of 48 for the previous week.
