Hounslow Council has confirmed that its waste and recycling collections will be disrupted for at least two weeks over the Christmas and New Year Holiday.

As households across the borough open presents and tuck into huge dinners, putting the bin out on the right day will be more important than ever. But, over the festive period, it can be tricky to keep track of the days never mind remembering to take out the recycling.

This year, Hounslow Council are encouraging residents to be greener by shopping locally, buying second hand and minimising food waste. Households are also being asked to avoid shiny cards and wrapping paper which can’t be recycled, and also save energy by using LED lights instead of incandescent light decorations.

Across Hounslow, recycling and black bin collections will be moved to accommodate Boxing Day and 2 January which will be treated as a bank holiday this year. Collection days will be different until at least 6 January, with services returning to normal on Monday, 9 January.

Listed below are the revised collection days, which affect both recycling and waste collections.

Bin collections on Monday (December 26) have been moved to December 27
Bin collections on Tuesday (December 27) have been moved to December 28
Bin collections on Wednesday (December 28) have been moved to December 29
Bin collections on Thursday (December 29) have been moved to December 30
Bin collections on Friday (December 30) have been moved to December 31
Bin collections on Monday (January 2) have been moved to January 3
Bin collections on Tuesday (January 3) have been moved to January 4
Bin collections on Wednesday (January 4) have been moved to January 5
Bin collections on Thursday (January 5) have been moved to January 6
Bin collections on Friday (January 6) have been moved to January 7.

Hounslow Council are also offering Christmas tree collections between 9 January 9 and 20 January 20. The trees will be collected on scheduled garden waste days.
