Hounslow Council's CEO Niall Bolger Steps Down

After a period of absence from work, Niall Bolger, the chief executive of Hounslow Council has stepped down.
Appointed to the role at the end of 2018, he was the head of the council’s administration during the pandemic and when the borough was named Council of the Year by the Local Government Chronicle in 2021.
He said that it had been a privilege to serve the people of Hounslow over the last six years.
Before joining Hounslow Council he was the Chief Executive of Sutton Council, a role he held from 2011. Earlier in his career, Bolger held senior roles in local government, including at councils like Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and Worthing Borough Council.
His salary when he joined the council was reported to be £180,000.
During his time as the Council’s Chief Executive, he was also Lead CEO for Infrastructure and Climate Change for the West London Alliance after having held the Skills, Employment and Regeneration brief. He was lead CEO for Environment and Climate Change for the Chief Executive London Committee, developing London’s Councils’ Climate Change Programme as well as the chairing the national Programme Board for the UK Cities Climate Investment Commission, 3Ci. He chaired the Heathrow Strategic Planning Group Chief Executive Board and he also led the establishment of the London Counter-Terrorism Board.
He established and chaired the Health Equity Board for the NW London ICS, the largest Integrated Care System in the country. In addition, he led the health and care integration programme for the Hounslow Borough Based Partnership.
Following the announcement he said, “It has been a privilege to serve the residents and Members of Hounslow over the last six years. I hope I have contributed in some small part to the prosperity and security of our residents and businesses and ensured the Council is well run and a good partner in the Borough, across London and beyond. I wish all Members and my colleagues the very best for the future.”
Cllr Shantanu Rajawat, Leader of the Council said, “I am very grateful for Niall’s leadership of the council, his advice and his contribution to the Borough over the last 6 years. He has led the council through considerable change during his tenure with skill, tenacity and good humour. On behalf of all Members of the Council, I thank him for his service and wish him well in the future .”
Mandy Skinner, the Assistant Chief Executive and Executive Director for Communities and Strategy, had already taken on many of his responsibilities during his absence but the council has, at this stage, made no announcement on plans for a replacement.
