New designs have been published by a developer hoping to build a self-storage facility on the site of the Aston Martin dealer on the A40 Western Avenue.
The owners of HOLD Self Storage have commissioned DMWR Architects to draw up designs for the new building which is on the north side of the road next to the Travelodge in Park Royal.
An initial plan (250675OPDCOB) was submitted last year to the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation, which is the planning authority for the site, last year.
Subsequently it was decided to reorientate the building on the 0.72 acre site following conversations between the applicant and the corporation’s planning team. Planners were concerned about the lack of active frontage onto Western Avenue and the balance between car and cycle parking in the original proposals. This resulted in the original building footprint being effectively rotated by 90 degrees.
The proposed building will be 19.3metres in height replacing the single-story building from which Stratstone currently operates.

A lawyer for the car dealer has written an objection on its behalf saying that the building owner failed to consult with it about the plans and that what is being proposed is not in line with the local plan for the area. Furthermore, the letter suggests that the new facility would lead to the loss of 15 full-time jobs in the area with none created to offset this given the nature or the facility proposed.
