School celebrates massive improvement in GCSEs
Staff and students celebrated as Acton High achieved their best ever GCSE results. 51% of students achieved 5 or more A- C grades including English and maths and 73% 5 or more A- C grades in all subject.
This closes the gap between results at Acton and
the national averages and shows that the improvements at the school are bearing fruit. The
head Mandy Golding said, "This was a real team effort.
Staff and students really gave 110% because they understood how important
this threshold is for creating opportunity. It was fantastic to see so
many happy faces this morning and listen to students talking confidently about their sixth form courses, knowing that they had met the conditions of their offers."
Acton's motto is 'Achievement for All' and this year this has certainly been the case: 94%
of students got 5 or more A- G grades and 22% got
three or more A or A* grades, double last year's figure. 47 students, 20% of the year group, achieved 10 or more GCSE passes and 11 students achieved 6 or more A*/A
grades.
Ms Golding continued, " I am so proud of the students and their commitment.
This shows that all the long winter evenings until 6.30 and 7 o'clock and all the Saturday
schools were worth it, but these couldn't have happened without the generosity of the staff
and the extra time they gave to make sure everyone could achieve their best.
Next year will be very exciting for us we are due to open our sixth form in September 2011,
and want our current year 11 to build on this excellent achievement to ensure the sixth form
gets off to a flying start "
