Rupa Huq Appointed as Shadow Minister


Jeremy Corbyn selects local MP for Home Affairs role

Dr Rupa Huq, MP for Ealing Central and Acton has been appointed to the role of Shadow Minister for Home Affairs with responsibility for Crime prevention. The brief includes CCTV, DNA and drugs amongst other things.

She will be working with the team headed by the New Shadow Home Secretary, Diane Abbott MP.

Dr Huq said “I am delighted to join the Labour Frontbench under Jeremy Corbyn and am looking forward to getting stuck in to my brief and taking the fight to the Tories.”

It’s a change from protesting on the backbenches to being part of the shadow ministerial team but Rupa who’s been an MP for less than 18 months said that it’d be business as usual.

"Despite my new role, my constituents can be rest assured that I will still continue to hold my weekly advice surgeries, respond to all correspondence and be visible within Ealing Central and Acton."

When asked about her new boss she commented, "I’ve known Diane since before I was an MP. She has always been a good friend of Ealing Labour and campaigned for us several times in the run up to the election.”

Dr Huq nominated Jeremy Corbyn for Labour leader for the vote in first gained the role. Her constituency party recently voted to support Owen Smith in the most recent leadership contest.

Brentford and Isleworth MP Ruth Cadbury was recently appointed as Shadow Housing Minister. Hammersmith MP Andy Slaughter was also made Shadow Housing Minister and as well as Shadow Minister for London.
