Ealing Council Holding Consultation on Cycling in the Borough
Wants residents to complete survey on improving local routes
Council wants to encourage more active travel in the borough

Ealing Council is asking local residents for their views on how cycling could be improved in the borough.
Whether it is for commuting purposes, the school run, shopping or leisure it is looking to identify ways it can improve the network of cycling routes via a short survey.
It is particularly encouraging people who don’t currently cycle very much or at all to say how improvements could be made that would lead them to use a bike more often.
You can use an interactive map to mark where you want to see improvements to the existing cycle routes and where you want to see new routes installed.
The council has invested in an existing network of routes with upgrades, signage or safety measures. Some borough roads are too narrow for separated cycle lanes, so cycle routes can be on or off the road, separated from traffic or along quiet streets, and most are signposted.
Ealing Council leader, councillor Peter Mason said, “Our ambition is to boost the network of cycling routes across Ealing, allowing residents to cycle safely and confidently anywhere in the borough.
“As promised in our active travel charter, we will be taking decisions about local active travel projects in partnership with local people. Residents now have the opportunity to tell us which cycle routes in the borough need improving and where we should create new ones.”
Councillor Deirdre Costigan, deputy leader and cabinet member for climate action, added, “We are working with partners such as Transport for London to improve cycle routes in Ealing, including investing half a million pounds in installing the next section of the Uxbridge Road cycle path, opening a brand new cycle lane in Greenford and installing a quietway on Boston Road, as well as upgrading cycle safety measures on many other back roads.
“We all know about the mental and physical health benefits that increasing cycling, walking and scooting can have, but getting on your bike also helps us to reduce dirty air from polluting vehicles in the borough. I am excited about hearing from local people about how we can help them cycle more safely and sustainably to more of the places they want to go.”
The survey is open for responses until 17 May.
