Tom Speight has played in front of thousands of fans supporting acts like The Stereophonics and Lewis Capaldi but delivered a more intimate performance in front of patients at St Mark’s Hospital in Park Royal.
The singer-songwriter was first diagnosed with Crohn’s disease as a teenager and has been a patient at St Mark’s for the past two-and-a-half years.
“It’s been a real gamechanger coming under St Mark’s care,” said Tom who is putting the finishing touches to his fourth album which is released in the autumn.
He took the opportunity to play in front of patients after coming in for treatment himself with his acoustic guitar.
It was part of his ongoing work as ambassador for Crohn’s and Colitis UK helping raise awareness of a condition that affects more than one in 123 people.
This has included several TV appearances and fundraising events including completing part of the SAS selection course involving a 24km hike around the Brecon Mountains.
Tom added: “There is a lot more awareness of Crohn’s nowadays and my advice to anyone who has just been diagnosed is to take things a day at a time and have a good relationship with hospital staff.
“It’s an ongoing journey but I am in a much better place because of St Mark’s and am look forward to getting back on the road later this year.”
St Mark's, which is on the Central Middlesex Hospital campus, is a national and international referral centre for intestinal and colorectal disorders.
