New Family Mile Event for Ealing Half Marathon Weekend

Entries now open for the children's races

Mini Mile

The 2018 Ealing Mini Mile will for the first time incorporate a Family Mile race.

Both will take place on Saturday 29th September - the day before the Ealing Half Marathon and are set to inspire hundreds of young runners to get active and be part of a big weekend of sport in the West London borough.

Last year 1,200 youngsters take part in a series of Mini Mile races on the Saturday afternoon, kicking off race weekend in true style.

The 2018 Ealing Mini Mile is now open to young runners aged 6-16 years and a total of 1,500 places will be available. The advance notice of the opening of entries is expected to be of particular interest to local athletics clubs as well as to children of those already signed up to the 2018 Ealing Half Marathon. It is also hoped that the event will attract a large number of youngsters who have never taken part in a running event before.

The 2018 Family Mile is a fantastic chance for children aged five or under to take part in their own separate race along with an adult. A total of 400 places will be available, allowing for 200 children and 200 adults. The Family Mile is an exciting new addition to race day and promises to be popular with siblings of older children entering the Mini Mile as well as with all families wanting to enjoy a big community event together.

The course covers a one-mile route around Ealing’s Lammas Park with spectators motivating the young runners as they make their way round and celebrating as they finish and receive their medals.

Places are expected to sell fast for the event, as they have in previous years, and anyone wishing to take part is encouraged to sign up as soon as possible after registration opens.

The Family Mile takes place at midday on Saturday 29th September and the Ealing Mini Mile takes place from 1pm, in waves according to age. All children in the Mini Mile and the Family Mile will receive a t-shirt, medal, chip timing and water on finishing. Adults taking part in the Family Mile will receive a medal.

Local independent Catholic girls’ school St Augustine’s Priory has been confirmed for the second consecutive year as the main sponsor for the 2018 Ealing Mini Mile.

Race Director Sandra Courtney commented, “We are delighted to announce that the 2018 Ealing Mini Mile and the very first Family Mile will shortly be open for entries. The Mini Mile is always a really popular part of race weekend and it is fantastic to see so many young runners of all ages and abilities wanting to get active and take part. The Family Mile is a great chance to open the event up to even more youngsters, which is very much in line with our commitment as a Community Interest Company to make sport and fitness available to all.

“Our thanks go to St Augustine’s Priory for their support as a sponsor once again. Entries to the Mini Mile and the Family Mile will open on 1st December, and we would recommend securing your places as soon as possible to make sure you are part of the fun next autumn. We are looking forward to welcoming our biggest ever turn-out of young runners at the 2018 event!”

Mrs Raffray, Head of St Augustine’s Priory, added, “It is a great privilege to support the Ealing Mini Mile for the second year running. This is an important community event for so many people and it is extremely exciting that this year it will be open to its largest number of participants, from pre-school children and their families through to primary school pupils and older teenagers. We are passionate about advocating health and fitness at St Augustine’s and a team of girls from the school will again be entering the Mini Mile. We are very much looking forward to being a part of race day.”

The seventh Ealing Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 30th September and is a big favourite among the running community. Over the past four years, the event has received three Gold awards and one Silver award for the UK’s Best Half Marathon at The Running Awards. It welcomes runners from near and far wanting to soak up the famous #EalingFeeling and enjoy the outstanding community support for which the event is known.

The 2018 Ealing Mini Mile takes place on Saturday 29th September and entry will cost £12 per child. The Family Mile will cost £15 per child with one adult maximum. Entries to the Mini Mile and the Family Mile open on Friday 1st December.

The 2018 Ealing Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 30th September and discounted early bird entries are available from now until 31st January 2018, costing £38 (affiliated) or £40 (unaffiliated).
