Council statement in wake of London Bridge attack

Statement by Councillor Julian Bell, leader of Ealing Council, "I want to express my sincere condolences to the families and friends of those killed as a result of last night's attack at London Bridge.

"We lowered the flags to half-mast over Ealing Town Hall early this morning as a sign of our respect.

"Although London is a city in grief today, we will not be cowed. We will stand united and we will stand firm against hatred, bigotry and terrorism. This great city's greatest strength is the unity of its diverse communities and we must not forget this.

"Our thoughts are will the 48 people injured, the families and friends of those who lost their lives and everyone affected by this horrific incident.

"I would like to thank our incredible emergency services for their continued bravery and commitment to keep London safe and protected."

A minutes silence was observed outside Ealing Town Hall at 11am on Tuesday 6 June in memory of those who lost their lives or were injured in the attack.

Paul Najsarek, chief executive of Ealing Council said:

"Following the horrific incident in London Bridge, our thoughts and deepest sympathy go out to those who have died and have been injured, alongside their families and friends. 
“Our values of tolerance, understanding and cohesion will always be the greatest weapon against hatred and terrorism. 
“We are flying the Union flag at half-mast over Ealing Town Hall in honour of those who have been affected by this attack.
“The safety of our residents, visitors and staff is of paramount importance and although attacks like this are very rare, we continue to work with our colleagues in the emergency services to ensure we have robust systems in place to protect us.
