Local ward councillors say they are being inundated with complaints about dumped rubbish all over Ealing following the introduction of the borough's new collection service.

On the 6th June the waste management system changed from black bags to wheelie bins which are now collected on alternate weeks - household waste one week and recycling another.
Some residents have complained that they havem't received their bins, others have been left unsure what exactly was due to be collected.

Conservative Councillor Joanna Dabrowska, who represents Ealing Common ward and says she has been getting frequent emails and calls about flytipping.

She says: '' Ealing Council's enforcement team are so busy with the Wheelie Bin Shambles that they don't have time to enforce this and seek the perpetrators at this time.
''We urgently need mobile cameras so that ward councillors across the Borough can suggest problem areas in order to catch persistent offenders of polluting our streets. The only way these people will learn is the penalty way.''

Liberal Democrat Councillor Gary Malcolm says he has personally dealt with over 150 complaints and written to Ealing's Chief Executive demanding action.

Now it seems the council has agreed there will be a tougher line taken against flytipping.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for transport, environment and leisure, said:

“I’d like to thank everyone for their patience while the new system becomes established. Both residents and collection crews are getting used to the way that rubbish and recycling are now collected and we are working hard to help residents to do the right thing.

'' It's great to see so many residents using the new wheelie bins well and seeing the benefits of the new service. However, dumped rubbish is a blight on local streets and those responsible are liable to be prosecuted for this behaviour.

''While people get used to the new system, we are clearing these dumps and supporting residents to ensure they can and know how to get rid of their waste responsibly, but we will soon be changing our approach and will look to investigate and take action against those responsible.

''We all want our streets to be cleaner, the move to wheelie bins helps us achieve that.''
