Met Office forecasters are warning of the prospect of more storms to come as hot weather and severe thunderstorms are expected to sweep across much of western Europe from Sunday, reaching London on Monday or Tuesday.
Last week’s storms brought a month’s worth of rain to Acton in an hour, leaving basement flats on Horn Lane 4ft deep in water and sewage.
A warning system, pumps and one way valves, which were installed after the last floods in Horn Lane just
five years ago, failed to withstand the onslaught and 20 homes were destroyed.
Hangar Lane underpass was also flooded; roads were closed as cars were submerged by floodwater and the Central and District lines came to a standstill.
The London Fire Service reported one of their busiest days ever with more than 400 calls being received in just two hours of mayhem. All crews from all four stations in Ealing were needed to deal with the floods.
The Met Office is advising people travelling or planning outdoor activities this week to stay tuned to weather broadcasts for up-to-the-minute developments on the situation as torrential rain, hail and winds approach.
