Official Charities Named For Ealing Half Marathon

Runners raise vital funds for many good causes every September

Alzheimer’s Society and Cancer Research UK will be returning as Official Charities for the Ealing Half Marathon this year.

Alzheimer's Society iis the only UK charity investing in research into dementia care, cause, cure and prevention, whilst working to meet the needs of people affected by dementia and inspiring change. All fundraising efforts at the Ealing Half will help the charity to make greater progress towards its vision of a world without dementia.

Meanwhile, Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research. The charity’s pioneering work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has helped to save millions of lives, and support from runners at the Ealing Half Marathon will help them to take another step closer to beating cancer.

The 2018 Ealing Half Marathon will be the seventh edition of the race and it is set to be the biggest and best yet. The UKA-measured, single-lap course follows a closed-road route around the leafy streets of West London, taking in parts of Central Ealing, Montpelier, Pitshanger, West Ealing, Hanwell and St Stephens. The race starts and finishes in Ealing’s Lammas Park, where the race village is located.

Race Director Sandra Courtney commented, “We are delighted to welcome back Alzheimer’s Society and Cancer Research UK as Official Charities for the 2018 Ealing Half Marathon. It was a very easy decision as they received huge support last year and are close to many people’s hearts. We hope that many runners who have already signed up to the 2018 Ealing Half Marathon will request a fundraising pack and use the race as an opportunity to raise money for these fantastic charities. To all those not yet signed up, now is the time to secure a charity place, get training and start fundraising! We are looking forward to giving an extra big cheer for all charity runners at the 2018 event and helping to make a real difference to others.”

Suzy Edington, Events Fundraising Manager at Alzheimer’s Society, said, “The Ealing Half Marathon has been supporting Alzheimer’s Society since 2014 and the donations we have received have been vital in providing information, advice and support for people with dementia, their families and carers. We are thrilled to be back on board for 2018 as this is a fantastic event with incredible community support and a great atmosphere.”

Samuel Nowell, Sports Team Executive at Cancer Research UK, said, “It is an honour to be an Official Charity once more for the Ealing Half Marathon, which is such a popular and well-organised event in the race calendar. Our life-saving work is funded entirely by the generosity of our supporters, so every pound raised by runners at the Ealing Half will help us move that little bit closer to beating cancer.”

As well as being a fantastic platform for charity fundraising, the Ealing Half Marathon is a big favourite among the running community, each year welcoming thousands of runners from near and far to soak up the famous #EalingFeeling. Boasting incredible community support and a superb atmosphere, the race has received three Gold awards and one Silver award for the UK’s Best Half Marathon at the prestigious Running Awards. It has once again reached the shortlist of The 2018 Running Awards, and voting is taking place now.

The 2018 Ealing Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 30th September.
