Benefit Fraudster Gets Crown Court Hearing

Acton resident defrauds Council by almost £30,000

Mohamed Gubara, 38, who lived until recently in the Vale, Acton is due to appear at Isleworth Crown Court tomorrow. He will be listed for sentencing on February 15th.

Mr Gubara pleaded guilty at Acton Magistrates' Court in December last year to eight charges of dishonestly obtaining benefit. He fraudulently obtained £27,031.96 in Housing Benefit and £2,654.52 in Council Tax Benefit over three years from Ealing Council. As the crime is too serious for a sentence from a magistrates' court, it was referred to the Crown Court where a judge will decide what happens next.

Gubara, who now lives in Streatham, failed to declare that he had been working since July 2006 for the Libyan Embassy, and between June 2003 and June 2006 he worked for the Saudi Arabian Embassy.

Since about August 2007 Mr Gubara has an arrangement directly with Ealing to repay the amount owed in Housing Benefit at the rate of £150.00 a month. My calculator shows that if this amount is paid back monthly without interest, he will make the final repayment in around 2024.
