Council Say It's Business As Usual At Borough's Libraries

Uncertainty has arisen as service is provided by Carillion

Ealing Council are saying that there will be no interruption to the service at the borough's libraries despite Carillion, the firm that operates them, going into liquidation.

A council spokesperson, said, “Libraries remain open for business and we have comprehensive contingency plans in place to ensure services run normally despite Carillion’s announcement today. We are seeking urgent discussion with Carillion to seek further clarity about the implications for the service.”

Staff have been told to continue to come to work and the libraries remain open for now and online access to the catalogue is still functioning. Library users have reported that the internet access at libraries is not functioning and say that staff are blaming the situation with Carillion.

Ealing is one of three London boroughs, the others being Harrow and Croydon under the umbrella of Carillion subsidiary Community Cultural Solutions. Hounslow used Carillion up until last year when they ended the contract early and gave the management to their own company, Lampton 360

Gunnersbury Park was managed by Carillion as part of a contract with Hounslow Council but the decision to terminate had been made last year and the management was due to switch to Lampton 360 in April. Hounslow are currently investigating how the takeover could be accelerated. The sports facilities at the park had been transferred to the management of Amey back in 2015.
