Council's Carton Collection Kicks Off

Recycle your drinks cartons from Monday December 7th

Residents are being reminded that they can add food and drink cartons to their green recycling boxes for recycling from Monday, 7 December.

Ealing Council is introducing the Tetra Pak-style cartons as it continues to find even more ways to recycle and encourage households to do their bit for the environment. Around 400 tonnes of waste could be saved from landfill by recycling these cartons as part of the borough’s green box recycling collection service.

The paper-based cartons, which are used for things like orange juice, smoothies, soups and wine, can be recycled into a number of different products, ranging from plasterboard liner to high-strength paper bags and envelopes.

Councillor Sue Emment, Cabinet Member for Environment and Street Services, said: “The council is always looking at ways to improve the service it delivers to residents and I’m pleased that we are able to introduce this extension of our recycling collections.

“On top of this we launched the flats recycling service a couple of weeks ago and we’ve had a great response so I’ve got high hopes for continued efforts from residents as there is very little that you can’t recycle now in the borough.”

Doug Teesdale, Contract Manager for May Gurney added: “We’re delighted to launch this new service in partnership with Ealing Council. Households in the borough have a real enthusiasm for recycling, and Tetra Pak collections have been introduced as a direct result of demand from local residents. We encourage everyone to use the service and play their part to help Ealing recycle even more.”

More than 12 tonnes was collected in the first two weeks of the clear sack recycling service, which launched on 16 November to residents in flats with 13-24 properties, flats above shops and properties on red routes.
