Southfield Liberal Democrats Select 2010 Council Candidates

Andrew Steed joins Cllrs Harvey Rose and Gary Malcolm in local elections

The Liberal Democrats in Southfield ward have reselected Harvey Rose and Gary Malcolm, in addition to Andrew Steed, as the three Liberal Democrat candidates for the local elections in 2010.

Harvey Rose – currently leader of the Liberal Democrats on Ealing Council, first elected in 1994. Harvey’s portfolio includes planning issues, housing, health and cultural matters. As a senior councillor he also sits on the Scrutiny Committee, and was appointed the Council’s Fair Trade Tzar last year. He chairs the new Southfield ward Forum that has met twice already to decide how to spend £40,000 of council money in the area.

Gary Malcolm – current Liberal Democrat councillor, first elected in 2002. He is the party’s spokesperson for environmental matters which includes a wide range of issues including street cleaning, rubbish collection and transport topics. He is leading the local campaign for the Piccadilly Line to stop on a more regular basis at Turnham Green.

Andrew Steed – is currently a Council Streetwatcher, involved in two local Neighbourhood Watch schemes and attends the local Police Ward Panel. He has been working with both Harvey Rose and Gary Malcolm over the past three years attending councillor surgeries and participating in all local ward meetings and campaigns such as Heathrow.

Councillor Gary Malcolm said, “We have made great efforts to communicate directly with people who live in the ward, by our regular FOCUS leaflets, neighbourhood letters and a complete survey of the ward which was completed last year. We keep in touch all year, every year, not just at election time”.

Andrew Steed commented “I am delighted to stand with Harvey and Gary as I know they have such a strong track record in representing the people who live in the ward. Time and again people comment on the Liberal Democrat’s commitment to Southfield and contrast it with the efforts of the local Conservative and Labour parties”.
