Council Declares War on Waste

Breakfast and advice on offer at local builders' merchants this March

Ealing Council has teamed up with building suppliers across the borough in its war against fly-tipping.

The Council is launching an awareness campaign to warn people against illegally dumping waste, and tell them how to get rid of their rubbish properly. As part of the campaign a number of special events are being held at local builders’ merchants throughout March.

Free breakfast rolls and cups of tea are up for grabs in the stores and the Council’s Envirocrime officers will be on hand to offer help and advice. Tradesmen can find out more about how to legally transport waste, and the penalties they face if they are not licensed.

The free breakfast events will take place from 7-10am on:

  • Monday 3 March, Wickes, Hanwell.
  • Monday 10 March, Selco, Hanger Lane.
  • Monday 17 March, Wickes, Hanwell.
  • Tuesday 25 March, Selco, Southall.

Councillor Will Brooks, Cabinet Member for Environment and Street Services, said: “The aim is to educate people on the effects of fly-tipping in the borough, and the potential financial penalties for offenders. Our officers will be out in force this month to make sure the message is received loud and clear, we will not tolerate fly-tipping.

“We have had some very successful prosecutions recently and will continue to push for the highest possible punishment for those who continue to blight the borough.”

In 2007 the Council carried out 2,230 investigations into litter and fly-tipping and issued 404 fixed penalty notices.
