The design of the Acton Gardens has been highly commended at a recent ceremony for Ealing Civic Society’s award scheme (now in its 28th year).

The winners were announced at an event hosted by local MP Steve Pound on Thursday 9 November.

The housing development by Stitch Studio, Maccreanor Lavington and PCKO Architects was one of two buildings in the borough to receive this accolade. The other was Springhallow School built for Ealing Council by Jestico + Whiles Architects.

There were also commendations for Madeley Road & Hanger Lane W5 houses for Genesis Housing Association by Living Architects, West Twyford Primary School, NW10 for Ealing Council by Astudio architects and Alfresco Living, Ealing W5 by KSKa Architects.

Ealing Civic Society Chairman Dr Robert Gurd said that the aim of the Award was to embrace all kinds of building and landscape design. He was impressed by the level of entries. He commented “It's a wide range of entries, all to a very high standard - ranging from a domestic extension to regeneration of a whole area of Acton.”

The short-listed entries were judged by local architects Franklyn Nevard, Anthony Ferguson and Gavin Leonard.

Other shortlisted entries this year were St Nicholas Church, Perivale, Oak Wharf Court, London W7 and St Mary’s House Church Gardens, W5.
