Child care costs in Ealing are the highest in the country according to a new survey coming in at 50% above the national average.

According to childcare.co.uk an online social platform for parents, childcare providers, tutors and schools the borough’s average hourly rate is £10.84

The most expensive average hourly rates for different childcare services in London are ranked: Nannying (£10.35), Babysitting (£10.18), Childminding (£7.11) followed by Day Nurseries (£6.16). The rates were calculated by childcare.co.uk using its internal data. The site has more than 1.5 million users nationwide and is the largest online community for parents in the UK having launched in 2009. More than 300,000 London residents are actively searching for childcare through the platform each month, with more than 120,000 childcare providers searching for work.

The analysis shows that Ealing sits 51% higher than the national hourly average of £7.16 with the capital itself sitting more than 15% higher than the rest of the country.

The five highest paying London Boroughs are:

1) Ealing - £10.84

2) Southwark - £10.26

3) Lewisham - £9.48

4) Wandsworth - £9.37

5) Westminster - £9.32

Richard Conway, CEO and Founder of Childcare.co.uk said, “I think it’s interesting to see how much childcare providers’ hourly rates change based on location. We have thousands of childcare providers across the UK and London prices are, as with most commodities and services, substantially higher.

“The 51% increase for Ealing from the national average is a big one and we’re surprised that there is such a difference. London in general sits more than 15% higher than the average for the rest of the country.”

Laurence Jones of local childcare agency Like Minders said, “It comes as no surprise to us that the cost of childcare in Ealing is the most expensive in the country. It is an issue which blights the whole of London and something that we at Like Minders are helping to offer a solution to. By offering flexible child care when parents really need it, we aim to support the many people who work in London who do not need full time care, typically those with flexible working hours.”
