A young man from Ealing is the recipient of a Jack Petchey’s Community Award for his efforts to help people during the pandemic.

24-year-old Tristan Benjamin Remme prepared, cooked and baked home-made food for many of the health workers and staff at the Acton Gold Care Home and Sycamore Lodge.

At the height of the lockdown he volunteered 5 days a week at the Kid’s Cookery School in Acton and made between 30-50 individual dishes for staff each day.

Fiona Hamilton-Fairley, Tristan’s nominator, said, “Many young people are going above and beyond the line of duty and I think Tristan is one of these people to be admired!”

Tristan said: “This award means a great deal to me and the Kids’ Cookery School charity, I have been volunteering for. The last 5 months have been hard for everyone. However, knowing that our cooking has helped Care Homes and Key workers means the world to me. Furthermore, It has meant that lock down has not been a waste of time, but a time to help, support and give back to people who have needed it. I am proud to have given back to my community and to have made a small yet positive difference. Big thank you to Jack Petchey for this lovely award.”

Tristan was awarded £50 from the Foundation and a letter from Sir Jack to congratulate him on going the extra mile to help others in this lockdown.

The Jack Petchey Foundation has worked with schools and youth groups across Ealing since 2005 providing £773,624 in funding to schools and youth clubs in the local area.

It launched its award scheme to recognise young people from London and Essex who are helping their community during the coronavirus outbreak.

Jack Petchey’s Community Awards have been awarded throughout the current lockdown situation to keep young people motivated and celebrate their contributions to society.

Trudy Kilcullen MBE, CEO of the Jack Petchey Foundation said: “At the Jack Petchey Foundation, young people inspire us all the time with the incredible work they do and that has not stopped in the current situation. We want to recognise more young people across London and Essex doing inspirational things to help their community and hope these Community Awards will motivate others and truly showcase the positive things young people do every day.”

A young person can be nominated for any actions they are doing to help vulnerable family members, the local area, school or youth group during the covid-19 situation as long as these abide by the government guidelines for social distancing.

These could include: delivering groceries to a vulnerable neighbour, creating content to inspire others (e.g. artwork, videos and blog posts), helping a youth group to adapt their work online, contacting local isolated people on the phone, and supporting a parent/friend keyworker.
