Facebook appeal leads to reunion with hero

The parents of a boy who slipped into the gap between a Tube train and the platform have finally met the “angel” who saved their son, according to a report in the Evening Standard recently.

Benjamin Nelson-West, five, fell onto the track while his mother Adrianna was helping his sister Amelia, two, onto a Piccadilly line train at Acton Town station on 31 July last year.

Commuter Tochukwu Mokah, 27, threw himself onto the platform and hauled Benjamin out.

The train then pulled away and Mrs Nelson-West, 36, was unable to thank him.

She and husband Barry, 54, appealed on Facebook for the hero to come forward and were able to thank Mr Mokah in person at their home in Hillingdon yesterday.

Mrs Nelson-West said: “I thought we might never meet him because his job takes him around the world.

"I said to Benjamin who are we meeting today?' and he said my guardian angel'. He doesn't quite realise what could have happened to him but he says he remembers seeing the stones when he was lying face down on the track.”

She said Mr Mokah was “a very special person” and they hoped to invite him to her home country, Poland.

Mr Mokah, from Nigeria, was staying with family in Lewisham.

He said: “I didn't realise I had been heroic, I did what I thought was human.

"I've been looking forward to meeting Adrianna and Barry, they feel like family now.”
