Final Score - Tara 6-06 v 4-02 Croydon

Sunday 27 July 2008 - Tir Chonaill Park, Greenford - On one of the hottest days of the year Tara and Croydon competed in a tough London Camogie Junior Championship Final at Greenford. The sweltering conditions did little to hold back the efforts of either side as they vied for the prestigious title of junior champions.

The game was characterised by a lot of goals, an early point by Tara’s Denise Gilligan was followed by four goals in quick succession; Gilligan first, then Joanne Hamilton and two by Sheila Fernandes; with a two point reply from Croydon. Niamh Pentony concluded the first half by yet another goal for Tara.

The second half continued on the same vein but this time the goals came from Croydon. Repeated scores brought the south London club back into contention with three goals without reply however steady nerves by Tara helped them regain their composure and as the half proceeded they chalked up valuable points to consolidate their position.

A late goal by Croydon heralded the end of an exiting game that entertained all who attended. Final Score Tara 6-06 v 4-02 Croydon.

Tara’s goalie Jacqueline Thornton, had a good game whilst Orla Maguire and Mags Heneghan played well in the back line. Aussie Rosie Cusack had a man-of-the-match performance at centre back, catching and clearing some great balls. Joanne Hamilton in midfield worked tirelessly whilst also scoring 1-1. Denise Gilligan was well marked by Croydon's backs but still managed to notch up 1-5.

For Croydon Joanne Treacy in full back had a particularly commanding second half performance as did Clare Curtin at centre back. Eimear Hoares introduction in the second half was immediately rewarded by two goals and Bridget Hehir was dangerous throughout.
