Kevin Finnigan of Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College
Kevin Finnigan, Principal of Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College, stepped down from his role as of December 31st 2007.
He said: “My departure follows a decision to explore new opportunities and was a difficult choice to make. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at what is such a forward thinking and innovative College. I am extremely proud to have played a part in its journey. I would like to thank the staff, Governors and students for making my time at the College such a rewarding experience and wish them well for the future. I will never forget the College’s “can do” spirit and its real commitment to the students.
“I know the College is in safe hands with a committed governing body, an able senior management team, excellent division and programme managers and most of all first class teaching and support staff. Teaching and learning really is at the heart of what they do.”
Amarjit Basi, currently Deputy Principal, will step in as Interim Principal in a move that underlines the College’s attitude of ‘business as usual’. Chair of the Corporation, Iain Mackinnon said “Kevin was passionate about the College and about our success. He leaves us knowing that on his watch the College has had probably the best year in its history, with a great inspection result, Beacon Status, and so much more.
“Until a successor is found, we are confident that the College is in strong hands with Amarjit and his senior management team at the helm. We wish Kevin all the best for the future.”
Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College is a QIA Beacon college thanks to its “innovation and excellence”.
In the last inspection in November 2006, OFSTED/ALI judged 94 out of 100 areas as outstanding or good. The college was awarded outstanding grades in Science & Maths, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and Leadership & Management.
Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College is one of the biggest FE colleges in the UK with 22,000 students and 800 staff across four sites in West London. They are the biggest provider of ESOL in the UK and offer a variety of courses for a diverse range of students with differing abilities. With investment of over £50 million over the last four years, they have some of the best facilities in the country including the Ealing Institute of Media (EIM) and three 6th Form Centres at their sites in Ealing, Hammersmith and Southall.
The College offers vocational and academic courses including: Construction, Engineering, Hair & Beauty, Hospitality & Catering, IT and Business. It has Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs) in Construction and Media, as well as strong employer and community links.
