Applications for secondary places due in by 21st October
Parents of children due to start secondary school in September 2012 are being urged to return their applications before the deadline.
The cut-off date for paper applications returned to schools is Friday 21 October and for online applications and paper applications returned directly to the council it is Monday 31 October. All applications received after these dates will be treated as late.
Last year, all those who applied before the deadline were offered a place at an Ealing school and 87% were offered a place at one of their top three schools.
The easiest way to apply is via the www.eadmissions.org.uk website. Paper application forms are also available from either the Ealing primary school the child currently attends or by contacting Ealing’s admissions service.
Ealing Council is part of the pan-London admissions scheme. Under this ‘one-stop’ system, parents submit one application listing six schools in order of preference, even if some of their preferred schools are outside of the borough. The council then co-ordinates its offers of school places with other London boroughs, ensuring that no one is offered more than one place.
Councillor Patricia Walker, cabinet member for Children and Young People said: “Our high schools are very popular and this can put pressure on places, but our Admissions service has a good track record of offering students one of their preferred schools, when they apply on time.
“It is obviously more difficult to do this with applications that are received after the deadline, which is why we encourage everyone to submit their application as early as possible.
“We want to help families to make the right choices when choosing a high school and I encourage anyone experiencing difficulties in completing the form, or with any questions, to contact our Admissions service for advice.
