Chiswick High Road / Kew Bridge Road Closed This Weekend

To enable urgent works to repair leaking water main on southbound carriageway

Transport for London have advised that Chiswick High Road/Kew Bridge Road will be closed this Friday evening (24th September), southbound between Stile Hall Gardens and the junction with Kew Road (Kew Bridge)/Kew Bridge Road (Westbound).

The closures are to enable urgent essential works by Thames Water to repair a leaking 30” trunk main on Chiswick High Road in the southbound carriageway at the junction with Kew Bridge Court (Opp. Kew Bridge Rail Station).

The traffic diversions are as follows:

  • Westbound A4 traffic requiring the A205 South Circular Road will be diverted early via Hogarth Roundabout, A316 Great Chertsey Road, Chiswick Bridge, Clifford Avenue – Chalker’s Corner (continuing either to Richmond and Kew via Lower Richmond Road, or Sheen/Putney via A205 Clifford Avenue/Upper Richmond Road West).
  • Westbound localised Brentford and Kew traffic will remain on A4 Westbound, turning left into Ealing Road, then turning left to access Kew Bridge/Kew Road or turning right to access Brentford High Street.
  • All southbound traffic coming from Gunnersbury Avenue will have the option to divert early via Popes Lane (right into Popes Lane, left into Ealing Road) or divert at Chiswick Roundabout via either of the above routes.

Chiswick High Road (Southbound) will remain open FOR ACCESS ONLY (between Chiswick Roundabout and Stile Hall Gardens). Exit access from Chiswick High Road (Southbound) to the A4 will be via Lionel Road South and there will be continuous, marshalled access for residents of Kew Bridge Court. Chiswick High Road (Northbound) will remain unaffected.

A number of advanced warning variable message signs will be located on approaches to the area.

The start date and time is Friday 24 Sep 8.00 p.m. with 24/7 working. The duration of the works can only be properly estimated once the leak is exposed, but it is anticipated that they will completed at some time on Monday.
