Olympic Gymnastic Hopefuls Sought In Ealing

Competition to find youngsters to follow in footseps of Matt Whitlock

A unique competition's being launched which could see Ealing youngsters heading to the Olympics.

Everyone Active in partnership with Max Whitlock Gymnastics are on the hunt for two keen gymnasts who have shown talent to potentially follow in the double Olympic Champion’s footsteps.

The training programme aims to get more young people healthy and active by offering them recreational gymnastics sessions, for children age between four and 11.

Re-registration is now open for the scheme which takes place at Twyford Sport Centre on Wednesday’s and Thursday’s, and children between the ages of seven and 11 registered on the programme will be eligible for the Mini Max competition.

In June 2018, Everyone Active and Max Whitlock MBE came together to create a unique programme that aims to get one million children engaged in the sport by 2022. This is being done through the delivery of the scheme in more than 30 Everyone Active centres across the country.

The new competition, which will run from April to December 2019, will give the selected children from Ealing the chance to compete in front of the country’s most successful gymnast to win a bespoke training guidance and regular updates with Whitlock.

On competition, Whitlock said: “The new Mini Max competition is a fantastic opportunity for children taking part in the Max Whitlock Gymnastics programme at Everyone Active centres and I’m so excited to see the talent we have in the programme.

“I’m so proud that Max Whitlock Gymnastics and Everyone Active are offering more children the opportunity to try and enjoy the sport that has meant so much to me and my family. I would recommend anyone interested in trying gymnastics visit the website to find their local centre and give it a go.”

The partnership between the double Olympic Champion and Everyone Active came about as a result of Whitlock’s long-standing relationship with the leisure operator. He has trained at Everyone Active’s Basildon Sporting Village from a young age, and has also been heavily involved in the Everyone Active Sporting Champions scheme, a support programme for talented athletes, for the past three years.

Leigh Curtin, Everyone Active General Manager said: “We’re pleased to be working alongside Max to offer this unique and exciting competition for children taking part in the Max Whitlock Gymnastics programme.

“For children to have a bespoke training guidance and regular updates with a double Olympic Champion is really special and I am looking forward to seeing the progress that our Mini Maxs make throughout the year.”
