Local Church Hosts First Return Gig For Jazz Fusion Band, Momentum


Charity Fundraiser will boost funds for St Peter's Community Hub

A fundraising gig supporting a church in Acton Green will be the first live performance in 16 months for a local band.

Momentum are a contemporary jazz-fusion 6 piece, described as ''an eclectic mix of jazz, flamenco, tango, Calypso and reggae.''

The band features, Acton resident, Yosi Marshall, on saxophone, clarinet and flute, Johnny Palmer on bass, Lonette Charles on vocals, Caroline Cooper on keyboad, Paul Viski on guitar and Lyn ''the Skin'' on drums/percussion.

They have recorded 3 albums: 'Acton to New York' and 'Singularity' and 'What’s The Vibe’ and one reviewer said '' Momentum are constantly creating new material that they perform at every show, and will always surprise the audience with their inventiveness.''

Yosi Marshall ( pic above with Saxophone) said: ' It's been a really difficult time for so many performers and we can't wait to play live again. We're thrilled our first gig is helping raise funds for this fabulous church and hope everyone will come and support.''

St Peter’s Church was built in 1915 to serve the developing community in the area around Acton Green and Southfield Road. It now also serves as a centre for the Italian community in west London. Father Fabrizio Pesce is Associate Vicar and Director of the St Peter’s Centre for Mindfulness and Spirituality.

St Peter’s is fundraising for its Community Hub project and need to raise over £130,000 to add toilets, a kitchenette for refreshments, and fully accessible ramped and stepped entrance creating an accessible, flexible community space for all to use. With the improved facilities the church will be able to host activities such as parent and baby/toddler groups and dementia-friendly coffee mornings, bringing people together to support wellbeing and reduce loneliness, and offering space for music, culture, contemplation and social activities.

Father Fabrizio said: “We are delighted to welcome Yosi and Momentum to St Peter’s for such a special concert as part of our widening activities after the pandemic. Momentum are sharing the proceeds of the concert with our Community Hub project and we are hugely appreciative of such wonderful support of our fundraising from within the local community.”

The gig will be taking place 7.30pm Friday 9th July at St Peter's Church, Southfield Road on Acton Green.
