Polish Folklore Group Celebrates 75 Years

One of the UK’s largest Polish folklore groups is set to celebrate its seventy fifth anniversary with a special performance.
On Saturday (15 June) members of the Mazury Dance Company, will be performing at New Wimbledon Theatre. The celebration is not being held locally because there were no venues large enough to accommodate the whole company.
The group is based at the Polish YMCA on Gunnersbury Avenue directly opposite the Ealing Riding School. It currently has over 120 members with ages ranging from seven to ‘however long your legs allow you to dance for’.
The company’s Directors - Zosia Lesiecka and Lucjan Santos Witkowski, both London-born, have aimed to teach the young members the importance of culture, heritage as well as charitable service. The group has supported the St Mungo’s Christmas appeal through collections of items and funds for the past 9 years.

The company has taken part in the Lord Mayor’s Parade and had the privilege of performing for several Heads of State, including the late Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III. It has also been asked to dance for diplomatic events at Lancaster House, and on stages such the Royal Albert Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Her Majesty’s Theatre in the West End and Sadler’s Wells.

Mazury has also taken part in many cultural festivals across the world including the Festival of the Pyrenees in France and the Festival of the Beskid Mountains in Poland.
