The captains of two England World Cup winning cricket teams have got together with the current England coach to launch The Festival of Cricket at Gunnersbury Park next year.

Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler and Brendon McCullum will be hosting an event that aims to showcase the best of the sport along with family fun, food and music with a host of cricketing legends and familiar faces in attendance.

The event is scheduled to take place from Friday 14 July – Sunday 1 July 2023 a weekend between two of the Ashes tests.

Celebrating both the traditional red ball format and the new more recent forms of the game, the Festival hopes to provide visitors with the opportunity to truly get involved with every aspect of cricket. There will be a chance to try out the latest gadgets, kit and games or have a go at a bowling, commentating and umpiring challenges.

Eoin Morgan, the Irish-born captain of the England team that won the 50 overs version of the World Cup in 2019 said, “The love and interest in the game has never been greater, and I’m excited and proud to be able to bring some of my friends together, to create an event that I hope will show the public what a fabulous sport cricket truly is, in all its various formats. Cricket is changing, and I want the festival to embrace the old and new to welcome visitors from all walks of life to share in my personal passion.”

Hot off England’s win the 20 overs competition in Australia this week, Jos Buttler commented, “What a great time to be launching a festival celebrating this beautiful game. With the Men’s and Women’s Ashes series, the Vitality Blast, The Hundred and our Festival of Cricket next summer, there is going to be something for everyone who loves the game.”

Joining the three founders across the weekend are a whole host of well-known cricketers including, Isa Guha, Moeen Ali, Mark Butcher with many other big names promised.

Organisers say that The Festival of Cricket already has the support of many key organisations in the world of cricket including Sky Sports, The Hundred, The England and Wales Cricket Board, BBC Test Match Special, Vitality, Castore, Barmy Army, Bharat Army, R66t Academy, Middlesex CCC, Surrey CCC, Kent Cricket, Essex CCC, Sixes Social Cricket, The Professional Cricketers Association and Cricket District, as well as the charities Take Her Lead, ACE Programme and Lord’s Taverners.

The festival will be managed by Brand Events which has previously run live events across the globe such as Top Gear Live, Taste festivals, Pub in the Park, and CarFest.

Steve Lane, Managing Director of Brand Events Ltd said of the partnership, “Being able to bring together three true legends of cricket to spearhead our exciting new festival has taken our vision to a whole new level. The added bonus that we now have two World Cup captains to boot, is really the icing on the cake. We have a long history in bringing people’s passions to life in the form of live, interactive events. Cricket is without doubt a passion that crosses huge boundaries and we’re delighted to be working with Morgs, Jos and Baz to create a truly unique experience for everyone.”
