Funding Available To Make Your Neighbourhood Greener

Deadline for Groundwork, London 'Our Space Award' is today

The deadline to apply for funding to help your local area become greener is today.

Groundwork, London's Our Space Award is open for its second round, helping local communities to unite in creating sustainable open spaces.

The grant scheme launched earlier this year is sponsored privately and administered by the social and environmental regeneration charity, Groundwork London.

The award aims to help Londoners green their city through projects which promote active community engagement and participation. Now in the scheme’s second round, community groups based in London can apply for a grant between £500 and £5,000 to either create or improve an open space; whether that is a park, housing estate, town centre, woodland, school grounds etc.

From the first round of the Our Space Award, Groundwork London has supported 28 London projects with c.£62,000 to improve community spaces. One example of a project currently in progress is the ‘Willesden Library Ecology Garden’.

This project is developing a highly congested area of London by improving Willesden Library with the addition of a green wall and a Library Ecology Garden. The grantees will place a pedestrianised area along Willesden High Street, creating a green wildlife corridor for locals to benefit from.

Martin Petry from Groundwork London said: “The first round of the Our Space Award has been very successful, and we are excited to hopefully see even more applications from London communities in the second round. These grants have provided the opportunity for communities to come together and make the places they live in more enjoyable. It increases the sense of pride in those spaces, an increased sense of ownership and new places for people to meet.”

The award will support Londoners of all ages and backgrounds, communities and schools in creating and improving sustainable community spaces; making them inclusive places for all to enjoy. Applications for the second round of the Our Space Award will close at 5pm on Monday 17th September.
