New Year recognition for Ealing social worker

Hard work rewarded in New Year's Day Parade Honours

Carol Yates

Ealing social worker Carol Yates had a great start to 2005 when her hard work and dedication were recognised in the New Year's Day Parade Honours.

Carol was nominated for the award by a young local woman who she had helped during her eight years of working with looked after children in Ealing.

The annual street parade celebrates the achievements of some of London's "unsung heroes", who take part in a procession on an open top bus alongside London Borough Mayors and the other Honours winners. The winners are also rewarded with a stay in a top London hotel.

Carol had a wonderful day and was thrilled to be presented with a commemorative plaque by Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Ian Potts at a special Awards Tea.

Marcella Phelan, Deputy Director of Children's Services at Ealing Council, said:

"This is a fantastic achievement by an outstanding staff member. The award is all the more special because it came as a complete surprise to Carol and is a direct nomination from a young person. All Carol's colleagues at Ealing Council feel the recognition is richly deserved and are very proud of her."
